On the Nintendo Switch, you can play with both the Joy-Con and other controllers. But which one is worth it most for you?

Joy-Con – Official Controllers of the Nintendo Switch
What is the Joy-Con? The so-called Joy-Con are unique in their design and can only be found with the Nintendo Switch. The two modules of the controller attach to the left and right of the Switch’s display, transforming the device into a handheld console.
At home, you can detach the controllers and place them in a grip. This grip is also included with the Switch. This way, you have a “real” controller. In couch co-op, you can also distribute the Joy-Con among several players.
However, the Joy-Con have been criticized by players for some time due to their poor build quality and the so-called “Stick Drift,” which can make the controllers difficult to use.
Pro Controller
What is the Pro Controller? The Pro Controller from Nintendo looks like a normal controller, as you might know it from the PS5 or Xbox. In its construction, the controller has an asymmetrical design, like the Xbox controller. That means the thumbsticks are not placed directly next to each other but are separated by the D-pad.
You can connect the controller to the Switch via cable or Bluetooth. However, it cannot be directly plugged into the Switch or split into two individual controllers.
Joy-Con or Pro Controller: Which one is better?
Who benefits from the Joy-Con? If you regularly play multiplayer games, especially couch co-op games, then the standard controllers are probably the best choice for you. This is because they are flexible to handle. The same goes if you frequently switch between handheld and docked mode.
Joy-Cons are also better suited for small hands, especially those of children, than a “Pro Controller”.
The price shouldn’t be underestimated either. A pair of Joy-Cons come included with both the Nintendo Switch and the OLED model.
Who is the Pro Controller worth it for? If you mainly play alone, want to play longer sessions, or have large hands, then the Pro Controller is the better choice for you. The Pro Controller offers better ergonomics and is long-term the better option in docked mode.
If you’re considering buying either a new pair of Joy-Cons or a Pro Controller, you could go directly for the Pro Controller as a single player. Because you can often get it for a few euros cheaper than a new set of Joy-Cons.
