While Christmas 2019 is celebrated in Pokémon GO, one Pokémon is not in the spotlight. Jirachi is the perfect Christmas Pokémon. We tell its story.
Why Jirachi fits: If you look in the PokéDex, you’ll see that Jirachi is also referred to as the “Wishing Pokémon.” It grants the wishes of thousands of people, much like Santa Claus.
It’s actually just a shame that Jirachi is not featured in the current Christmas event, as it would fit perfectly into the story.
The Christmas story behind Jirachi
What is told about Jirachi: Almost every Pokémon has a story told by the anime or other platforms surrounding Pokémon. There is also such a story for Jirachi.
Jirachi actually sleeps all the time. Only once every thousand years does the Pokémon wake up and grants the wishes of people. In order for the wishes to come true, people must write them down on the slips of paper attached to Jirachi’s body. When Jirachi is awake, it fulfills every wish on those slips.
Not without reason does Jirachi also look like a shooting star. So when it flies through the air, it resembles a shooting star, which according to legends is also said to grant wishes.
Is this feature also in Pokémon GO? The story around Jirachi was only briefly touched upon in the corresponding special research. Otherwise, the secrets surrounding Jirachi are generally unknown if one has nothing to do with the other Pokémon games.
Only the move Wish makes a bit of a nod to Jirachi’s special abilities. The move deals damage in the game just like all other attacks, but at least the name gives a small hint.
Next year, you can then not write your wishes on a wish list, but call your Jirachi and tell it your wishes. Who knows, maybe they will come true.
