The free mercenary Flay is a great help for your team. We show you how to unlock him in Jagged Alliance 3.
Who is Flay? Flay is a sociopathic hunter looking for a new challenge. After a disappointing collaboration with poachers, he decided to go on a human hunt and take down his former hunting companions.
In Jagged Alliance 3, there are many mercenaries you can recruit during the game. A large part of them can be unlocked in the normal way and simply ordered through the browser at the mercenary agency. They cost good money for every day they work for you. For some free mercenaries, you need to complete hidden tasks. We explain how to do that with Larry in Jagged Alliance 3 here.
Flay is a good shot who joins you without any weekly costs. He is fine with whoever he can hunt down, the prey still missing for the hunter: humans. We show you in the overview how to recruit him as a merc.
Unlocking Flay
This is what you need to do: Before you can recruit Flay, you need to travel to the Poacher Camp at coordinates C5. Here, you must kill all enemies so that you can then talk to the leader Hyena Gilbert. He will talk to you about Flay and wants you to find and take him down.
Now you have the task of finding three corpses of poachers with antlers. Because they were taken down by Flay. You can find one easily at C6, east of the camp. The other two corpses can be found in the northwest at B4.
After you have interacted with all three corpses, Flay will appear. Now you can talk to him and need to pay close attention to what you click.
Important: You need a character in your team with at least 90 Wisdom. If you don’t have a mercenary with such a high value, you can hire the mechanic Barry. He is quite cheap and can easily reach the team from sector B2.
This is what you need to ask: Ask Flay if he wants to go hunting with you. Flay agrees to the proposal but wants to keep the trophies of his killed opponents. Do not ask him why he does not instead hunt the Legion.
Now you have unlocked Flay for your team and can enjoy a merc who is great to use as a sniper. He handles distant foes wonderfully, which should be an asset for many teams.

What do you think of the crazy story surrounding Flay? Will you bring the mercenary into your team or are you rather averse after his backstory?
