Mostly, the process in New Game Plus is always the same: We take over our character along with their skills and the level with which we completed the first run. Starfield takes New Game Plus to a new level and provides us with one of the craziest features we have ever seen in a game.
Attention, Spoiler: This article contains spoilers about the ending and the New Game Plus of Starfield. If you don’t want to hear anything about it, it’s best to come back at a later time.
What’s so crazy about it? In every run of Starfield, it’s possible for your game state to change a bit. At the end of Starfield, you enter a new version of the multiverse, where different circumstances may apply.
This includes the following scenarios (via gamerant.com):
- The Constellation consists of different versions of yourself who have joined different factions.
- Sarah Morgan is a plant.
- Cora Coe, the adult daughter of Sam Coe, holds you responsible for her father’s death.
- An evil version of yourself attacks Sarah Morgan.
- A younger version of yourself is already with the Constellation.
- Walter Stroud purchases the Constellation.
- The hunter kills all members of the Constellation.
- The Constellation consists of children.
- Andreja kills all members of the Constellation.
- Only Vasco is the sole survivor of the Constellation.
However, not every run is different, which means you might have to complete the game 4 or 5 times before the universe change is triggered. To be completely sure, you should save Starfield just before the end during the 4th or 5th run and run straight to the Constellation in the new game state.
If nothing has changed, you can simply reload the game state and try again. However, you need to have some patience, as the ending scene cannot be completely skipped.
This is how you can quickly earn money in the new run in Starfield:
What changes in New Game Plus in Starfield
Is New Game Plus worth it for me? New Game Plus is always a great opportunity to catch up on missed side quests. However, the described changes seem to only affect the Constellation. The rest of the game world remains the same, and you have to complete the same tasks:
- find all six artifacts.
- visit the temples for new or enhanced powers like melee combat.
- complete the roughly 17.5-hour-long main quest.
- once again enter a new version of the universe.
Even the locations where you find the artifacts have remained the same. This has the advantage that you can complete the game faster and move on to the next run. On the other hand, it might be too little incentive for some players for a New Game Plus if the effects are only visible with the Constellation.
However, there is a trick to shorten a run: You can tell the Constellation that you are a Starborn and therefore have already seen several versions of the multiverse. This way, you can skip the story and go directly on the journey to gather the artifacts.
Therefore, you should decide for yourself whether you want to invest the additional playtime to see an alternative universe of the Constellation.
