The new multiplayer game Atlas is receiving a lot of negative feedback. Even big Twitch streamers like Lirik and Summit1G, who were actually looking forward to the MMO, are now disappointed.
What is going on? There is a lot of commotion around the new pirate game from the Ark developer Wildcard and its subsidiary studio Grapeshot.
After the game was delayed several times right before the release, Atlas finally entered its “Early Access” phase on December 24. And immediately, it got negative reviews on Steam.
The game is said to be a reskin of Ark, and the trailers promised too much to the players. Although the ratings on Steam are dominated by poor reviews, the sales figures of the game are still quite high.

What are streamers saying about the game? The two streamers Lirik and Summit1G were eagerly anticipating the release of Atlas on their Twitch channels, only to end up experiencing disappointment. Especially Summit1G was really frustrated:
You would think they could have toned down the collecting and survival aspect just a little bit. […] Make it a bit more pirate-like, just a tiny bit. But it’s Ark, just with water between the islands.
Summit1G also believes that “Early Access” is not a good excuse for an unfinished product. “If they just wanted to test it, they should have offered a free-to-play weekend instead of charging $25 from people…” he said on Twitter.
Lirik takes the disappointment with bitter humor and mocks the developers’ false promise that individual servers should be able to accommodate up to 40,000 players: “It was probably a misunderstanding. The developers joked that they would have 40,000 players, and the guy who made the trailer put it directly into the video.”
Additionally, both streamers retweeted a popular meme about Atlas on their Twitter accounts:
“Atlas shows how hungry players are for a functioning, large PvP/PvE multiplayer game for PC, despite the prevailing battle royale madness,” Lirik said about the initially high interest in Atlas on Twitter.
