High Queen Khalida
Khalida Neferher was held in high regard in Nehekhara even before her time as a Tomb Queen. The warrior queen of Lybaras, one of the most remote of the great cities of the realm, was loved and respected throughout Nehekhara. She was intelligent, patient, brave, and had a strong sense of justice and honor. Moreover, she was very beautiful.
Her reign was brief and ended tragically. In her last living moments, she was betrayed by an old friend: Neferata. Her transformation into a vampire made the nobles in the land suspicious – including Khalida.
In the “Lords of the End Times” DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3, Khalida will finally get her well-deserved revenge on Neferata:
At a banquet, Neferata accused her of intending to commit treason – with the intent to kill her. Khalida engaged in a duel with Neferata but stood no chance against a vampire. She fell to the ground, but that was not enough: Neferata bit her own tongue and let blood drop into Khalida’s throat to transform her into a vampire as well.
Khalida did not want to endure this fate. The people of Nehekhara had their own gods (whom they still worship as undead), and these now pleaded with Khalida for salvation. Asaph, the goddess of beauty, magic, and vengeance, heard her plea. She freed Khalida from the vampiric decay, but also drained her remaining life force in the process.
Her body was then taken back to Lybaras, embalmed there, and seated on a relic made especially for her. A golden death mask was placed on her face. In times of great need, Khalida awakens once more, infused with Asaph’s power. Since the betrayal by Neferata, Khalida has held a deep hatred for all vampires. She vows not to rest until the last of them is dead.
