The First Descendant is a new loot shooter where fans invest their time in the grind. Unfortunately, there have been many accusations from the community saying that the developers have stolen from well-known titles like Destiny 2. Now Nexon has spoken out.
What you missed:
- The First Descendant was released on July 2, 2024 and has since enjoyed great popularity across various platforms including Steam
- The game mixes familiar elements from Warframe and Destiny 2 and creates something new with its setting
- However, the loot shooter has gone overboard with its inspiration, and many fans could recognize mechanics from Warframe as well as icons that are said to be from Destiny 2
- Initially, there were no reactions to the plagiarism allegations, but now Nexon, the team behind The First Descendant, has spoken out and clarified the status of the “copies”
Adjustments will follow soon
What did Nexon say? Paul Tassi, a big fan of Destiny 2 and editor for the US news site “Forbes,” was contacted by Nexon regarding the plagiarism allegations (Source: x.com). The developers clarify that they have drawn inspiration from Destiny 2. The team behind The First Descendant admires Bungie’s loot shooter and respects their work.
However, they have heard the community’s feedback and will change the icons that are too close to the original (Destiny 2). You can find the complete statement translated here:
The First Descendant was developed as a looter shooter game with a deep affection and respect for other games in the genre. Destiny 2, a globally recognized looter shooter game, is also personally admired and respected by the team and served as inspiration during the development process. We have taken the concerns raised seriously and decided to make adjustments to ensure that any potentially similar-looking images clearly reflect the unique identity of our game. We will continue to improve the game for fans of the looter shooter genre.
What do players say about the statement? Players are reacting with mixed feelings regarding the statement. Some celebrate Nexon’s openness in admitting their mistakes, while other players focus on the developers’ wrongdoings:

- “It’s crazy how people are praising Nexon for fixing their mess after it went viral, even though they should have done it right from the start.” – SouLHunTer3544
- “Wow, are they actually listening to feedback?!” – DctrGizmo
- “Honestly, the best thing they could have done. I’m glad they didn’t try to sweep it under the rug and move on. Good for them.” – Emoralityy
