It seems that the battle royale shooter PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) is intended for a release on Sony’s PS4. This is now indicated by a rating for age restriction in South Korea.
What are the specific hints about PUBG PS4? According to the Korean Game Rating Board “GRAC”, there will indeed be a PS4 version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. This has not yet been announced by the developers Bluehole.
The Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee classified PUBG for PS4 players “21 years old and over”. Reasons for this include a high level of violence, drug use, realistic weapons, and other typical features of PUBG.
Rating announces PS4 version
So far, there is PUBG for mobile devices with Android and iOS, PC, and Xbox. Thanks to the rating shared by the Twitter account Nibel, there are now initial concrete hints about a version for Sony’s PlayStation 4. The rating is quite fresh and dates from September 11, 2018.
Aside from the PS4 version, there are no news in the rating.
So far, the PUBG makers have not announced a PS4 version. However, they have never denied working on it.
What has been the situation with PUBG and PS4 so far?
- Initially, there was already a promise from PUBG in March 2017, that they would appear on PS4 and Xbox One.
- PUBG, however, announced at E3 2017 the deal with Microsoft that PUBG would be “console exclusive” for Xbox One. Microsoft never specified how long PUBG would remain “console exclusive” on the Xbox One.
- After that, Bluehole did not comment on a PS4 release for a year and a half, stating that they were focusing on Xbox One.
- There were rumors that Microsoft wanted to prevent a release of PUBG on PS4, but this remained unconfirmed.
Good conditions for PS4 version: By now, PUBG has reached version 1.0 on Microsoft’s Xbox. Due to this progress and the elapsed time, it could be that PUBG is now ready for PS4.
After all, it’s been almost a year since the release of the Xbox version. And PlayerUnknown himself said that you “never know where the journey leads” and that they want to focus on the Xbox version 1.0 for now.
However, do not expect the best graphics on PS4, on Xbox One, PUBG is now uglier than ever.
And what about crossplay?
With another console version, fans are asking if they can play together.
No complete crossplay yet: PC players currently cannot play PUBG against Xbox players. Among smartphones, there is crossplay between Android and iOS.
Players would be pleased: If in PUBG, Xbox players could face off against PS4 friends, fans would definitely be happy.
This wish could come true, as Sony has already given hope for Fortnite that they want to solve the crossplay issue. However, there has been no official statement yet regarding crossplay between the potential PS4 version and Xbox One.
Actually, China had already prepared an alternative for PUBG fans on PS4.
