With Season 6 and the expansion “Vessel of Hatred”, numerous innovations are coming to Diablo 4 that will fundamentally change the game. YouTuber Rhykker has taken a closer look at the new content and says: Diablo 4 is evolving into Diablo 3 2.0.
On October 8, the first expansion “Vessel of Hatred” for Diablo 4 will be released, and a day later Season 6 will start. As a result, players can expect many changes to the base game and some new features.
In a YouTube video, Rhykker examines the announced changes. The content creator and Diablo expert draws comparisons to Diablo 3. He believes that the developers are inspired by the systems of its predecessor, but they are aware of the problems that existed and how to solve them in Diablo 4.
Vessel of Hatred is released in early October. Here you can see the (pretty bloody) trailer:
“Diablo 4 takes on its role as the successor to Diablo 3”
What comparisons does he draw to Diablo 3? In his YouTube video from August 31, 2024, Rhykker makes several comparisons to Diablo 3. These relate to changes in the base game and also to new features coming in Diablo 4.
Rhykker explains that the mercenaries coming with Vessel of Hatred will apparently function similarly to Diablo 3. They are not intended to be a “sidekick” that overshadows you, but to serve to buff you. When they die, they don’t really die but get a cooldown.
Mercenaries will not count as minions or companions, Rhykker notes. In groups, there will also be the possibility to build the “rapport” of your mercenaries. To do this, you can use a second, passive mercenary.

The new difficulty system is also very similar to that of Diablo 3, says the Diablo expert. The world tiers that currently determine the difficulty in Diablo 4 will become difficulty levels. Then there will be four standard difficulty levels and four torment levels that represent the endgame. You unlock these levels through the pit.
The new glyph system reminds Rhykker of the legendary gems from Diablo 3. You will no longer level up your glyphs in Nightmare Dungeons but through “tries” in the pit. And the (up to 300) Paragon points you collect will then be cross-character.
Rhykker believes that the developers clearly have in mind the problems that the systems in Diablo 3 had. He says:
For example, Diablo 3 had about 20 different difficulty levels, but only a few of them were really relevant. The various difficulty levels in Diablo 4 are now intended to feel like meaningful progression steps, rather than just smooth and easy transitions.
Before you reach level 60, you have four different difficulty levels, and once you reach level 60, you unlock four additional torment levels (1 to 4).
How does he assess the changes? Rhykker feels that Diablo 4 is increasingly resembling Diablo 3 with each season. Diablo 4 is finally taking on its role as the successor to Diablo 3, he says. Overall, he finds that the progression benefits “the improvement of the game”.
Rhykker is overall impressed with the updates for Diablo 4 and suspects that Season 6 will be an “absolute banger”, just like Seasons 4 and 5 before it.
The Diablo expert also highlights a “Quality of Life” change that he finds great. The developers have announced a feature that makes both traveling and other activities in the ARPG easier.
