In Destiny 2, a clear indication has been discovered that the outgoing Season of Arrival will receive a closing event – just like Season 10 before it. This is what we know so far.
What is the Season-End Event about? Seasons in Destiny 2 have ended quite unspectacularly for a long time. Sometimes you could read the end of the seasonal story in a blog, sometimes the end of the previous season was picked up in the trailer for the new season, or sometimes there was … absolutely nothing. This is where many fans and players wished for improvement.
At the end of Season 10, Bungie finally tried something completely new and held the first live event in the history of Destiny – in the style of Fortnite. A Cabal space station was destroyed by the Warmind Rasputin in a massive rocket attack and crashed to Earth near the Tower. The great danger that had built up during the season was destroyed live. And everyone could be in the front row.
The overall tone regarding this new development in the community: The event was quite spectacular, but way too lengthy. Please make it shorter – then more of that would be welcome. For Bungie itself, the event was also uncharted territory, but soon the studio will have the opportunity to implement the feedback from the first event. Because it looks like the end of Season 11 will also be celebrated in the form of an event.
What supports a closing event in Season 11: In the data of Season 11, a special emblem has been discovered. It is called Disaster Protocol and can be viewed on light.gg, for example.
The interesting thing about the emblem: It was introduced in Season 11, is part of the Season of Arrival (Season 11), and the source is given as: “Season-End Event”. In some data entries, it gets even a bit more concrete. It states: “Witness the end of season 11 event”.
This is a pretty clear indication that there will likely be a closing event this season as well. A comparable emblem also existed for participation in the Season 10 event.
What is already known about the event at the end of Season 11? Basically, nothing yet. The event is apparently still a secret and was not mentioned on the original roadmap or in the context of Bungie’s information regarding extended Season 11.
However, the name of the emblem, Disaster Protocol, thematically fits well with the developments occurring during Season 11. Four locations, Mars, Io, Titan, and Mercury, need to be evacuated as Darkness has already arrived there. It is quite possible that Bungie will visually explain why these locations will rotate out of the game with the release of the Beyond Light expansion through an in-game event.
Yet how this might play out – there are currently no clues, not even through data mining. It could be that players can experience the provisional “end” of each of the four locations one after another, as Darkness spreads there definitively – spread over several days. Some believe a larger cutscene is also possible. But so far, that is pure speculation.
So it remains exciting when Bungie will let the cat out of the bag here.
