The building game Cities: Skylines II (Steam) is currently big on German Twitch. Even Maximilian “Trymacs” Stemmler (29) has tried his hand at it and has lived up to his reputation as the “streamer without skill.”
What kind of game is this? The city-building simulation Cities: Skylines II launched on October 24, 2023, on Steam. It is the sequel to Cities: Skylines, which was so complex that it was even used in a psychological study.
However, the sequel showed signs of performance issues even before its release, and even the developers didn’t seem quite sure if the game should be played at release. Nevertheless, Cities: Skylines II is currently trending on German Twitch (via sullygnome, as of October 26, 2023).
Maximilian “Trymacs” Stemmler also tried his hand at city-building and showed how not to do it.
Get out of debt – at any cost
How did it go? Trymacs seems to have set himself one goal in a 17-minute segment released on YouTube on October 24: to get out of debt! Building a city in Cities: Skylines II is not easy at all since such a city initially consumes a lot of money.
It’s even harder when you have no idea what you’re doing. Trymacs explains right at the start that he hasn’t played the first part. He has at least watched videos about it, so the streamer dives right in.
Since videos can only substitute practical experience to a limited extent, the coal power plant is placed in close proximity and in the wind direction to the residential area – and immediately after that, he reads the warning that this is exactly what should be avoided.
Quickly, though, the streamer is more excited that there’s now electricity. How his residents feel about having a substation in their backyard is another matter.

How is it received? In the comments on YouTube, viewers express their enthusiasm. Many wish for more content on Cities: Skylines II or even an entire series about the game. This, however, is by no means due to the streamer’s gaming skills; quite the opposite:
- 007baum: “As a ‘Cities: Skyline’ addict, it’s really hard to watch.”
- thedarkbuilder: “It’s so painful to watch Trymacs play when you have at least a little knowledge.”
That, however, is exactly what makes it appealing to the fans. One viewer writes: “But we love him just for that.” Trymacs has already proven his ‘courage to fail’ when playing CS:GO together.
Even without skill, you can climb the ranks in some games – if you know the right people. Trymacs took advantage of his friends’ skills to level up in Valorant, but this made some people really angry. You can read more about it here:
