Mythic+ in World of Warcraft is often discussed. However, the system is extremely popular – even the latest numbers clearly confirm this.
No matter which content of World of Warcraft is being discussed, everything is up for debate. Many believe that Mythic+ only appeals to a small niche of players. There are more and more alternatives to obtain strong gear – whether it’s through Depths, crafting, PvP, or raids. Even world events can yield good gear.
Yet the Keystone dungeons, also known as Mythic+ or simply “M+”, are extremely popular. The first week was a complete success.
What are these numbers? The site raider.io reads, like other sites, all dungeon visits of the Mythic+ category. This allows for the creation of various statistics – such as which classes are particularly successful, which dungeons are popular, or how successful the “Mythic+” system is as a whole.
Particularly the last statistic is quite astonishing. Because in the past week, during the first “Mythic+” week of The War Within, more than 2.3 million dungeon visits in the M+ category were recorded (via raider.io). Only those that were fully completed count.
This is quite remarkable when comparing the numbers with previous seasons. In the last season of Dragonflight, only around 1.5 million dungeon visits in M+ were recorded in the same period.
The comparison with the first season of Dragonflight is rather sobering, as there were a whopping 3.2 million (via reddit.com).
However, to believe that The War Within is performing worse than Dragonflight would be a misconception.
Why are the numbers so impressive? This is due to several factors, as the landscape of endgame content in World of Warcraft has changed significantly. The “Mythic+” area now starts at a much higher difficulty than in previous expansions. After all, the difficulty of a “M+2” is now as high as that of a “M+12” at the beginning of Dragonflight. Thus, only half of the range of dungeons counts towards the “M+” statistics.
Or, to simplify: If you take the old system as a basis, then in the statistics for the 1st season of Dragonflight, every dungeon from “Mythic+2” and above is included, while the 1st season of The War Within only counts dungeons from “Mythic+12” onwards.
Moreover, many would no longer be dependent on M+. With the Depths, solo players or anyone not seeking absolute optimum can also obtain really strong equipment from other content without being reliant on a group. That such high numbers arise despite these alternatives shows how popular Mythic+ still remains.
In any case, this is likely a very good sign for World of Warcraft. That the Mythic+ area could still grow with more selection in endgame is at least a clear indication that World of Warcraft is doing really well right now, and after the long Shadowlands trough and the reorientation in Dragonflight, it is now heading towards or has already reached a peak.
