Do only old gamers still play World of Warcraft? Or does the game still reach a younger, emerging target audience? We want to find out.
World of Warcraft is one of the longest-running MMORPGs. So big and so popular that players even prefer different versions of the nearly 16-year-old game. In addition to the current WoW: Shadowlands, there is also a solid fanbase for older versions of the game – such as WoW Classic or the newly launched BC Classic.
But what about young players in World of Warcraft? Can the game still appeal to a younger generation? Or are the remaining players in Shadowlands all “old hands” who have been playing since the middle of the last decade?
This discussion comes up time and again: The age of World of Warcraft players is also a major topic in the comments on MeinMMO, in the subreddit, or in other community forums. It is often discussed where the more mature community is hanging out.
Even if insults like “There are only kids here” don’t necessarily target the real age but the behavior of the players, it is still interesting to know how old the player base of both games actually is.
WoW players! How old are you actually?
We want to find out the age of the World of Warcraft player base in our community with two small surveys. Can the game still attract younger players? Or do most WoW fans now belong to the “old guard”? Does WoW Classic attract older or younger players more?
How does the survey work? There are 2 surveys. In one, we want to ask about the age of players of WoW Classic (including BC Classic) and in the second, the age of players of WoW: Shadowlands (i.e., Retail).
If you play both games, you are welcome to participate in both surveys. If you only play one of the two games, please be fair and only respond for the corresponding game, so we can ultimately have a representative picture.
