Currently, many players in Destiny 2 are complaining about the rare raid exotic Vex Mythoclast. MeinMMO wants to know from you in a survey whether the weapon is too strong and explains why many Guardians are envious.
About this weapon: In Destiny 2, Guardians can obtain the iconic weapon Vex Mythoclast. The exotic has a tumultuous history:
- The item was initially a trash drop in Destiny 1 and was then nerfed for years
- In May 2021, the Vex came to Destiny 2 and was unpopular because it was too weak
- With the current Season 15, Bungie gave the exotic numerous buffs to damage, range, stability, and rate of fire, creating a new monster
Now the Vex Mythoclast is the best weapon in the game and also benefits greatly from seasonal mods. It shreds everything. But why are many Guardians suddenly screaming for nerfs and upset about the recently buffed exotic?
The Vex Mythoclast is strong and rare – is that its problem?
That’s why the exotic is so rare: As a raid exotic, it isn’t easy at all to obtain the Vex. First, you have to defeat the final boss of the “Glass Chamber“. However, the drop is not guaranteed.
RNGesus doesn’t increase many loot prayers, and many Guardians complain that they simply can’t get the Vex even after over 30 runs, even if they complete all 3 raid clears per week. Thus, the exotic cannot be equipped by everyone – it’s truly rare. The numbers also show this:
- Only 1.7% of all Guardians ever registered in Destiny 2 have obtained the Vex Mythoclast according to Warmind.io
- 22% of all users in the database Light.gg claim to have the Vex Mythoclast – keep in mind that many Guardians do not use such databases or authorize API access
That’s why Guardians are complaining in PvP: That the Vex tears apart enemies in PvE is hardly an issue. Such a serf does not really complain. However, since the Vex is also very dominant in PvP, frustration arises. Many feel that the Vex Mythoclast is like an “I obliterate you immediately” button in the Crucible.
Since the exotic is rare and not everyone can use it, there is both envy and hatred toward the weapon. Nobody wants to play against such a monster and always feel inferior – understandable.

The Vex should definitely get a nerf in PvP, that damn thing is simply too OP and ruins PvP even more. […]

In addition, many experts and content creators have taken up the controversial topic. Here is just a small excerpt:
- “Is the Vex Mythoclast too powerful in Destiny 2?” Asks YouTuber True Vanguard
- Also YouTuber Datto ponders “Does the Vex Mythoclast need to be nerfed now?”
- “The Vex Mythoclast could be pretty broken,” says YouTuber Drewsky, and right after that, the next video says: “Yes, the Vex is pretty wild” (via YouTube)
- “Destiny’s new best broken weapon is the Vex Mythoclast that many players simply cannot obtain,” headlines Forbes.com
Should raid exotics be OP? Other players are happy that they finally have a reason to grind for a raid and are rewarded with an incredibly strong weapon that not everyone possesses. They say: The people who are now calling for nerfs shortly after the start of the season are just envious.
There are also Guardians who see the Vex as overhyped, either excessively praised or demonized (via reddit.com). However, the topic is hot, and one can understand the calls for nerfs. Also, (or especially) when one gleefully shreds the enemy with their Vex.
How strong is the Vex now? If you look at the fact that the Vex recorded 6% of all kills alone in the last Trials – twice as much as any other weapon – even though it is so rare, it quickly shows: the weapon must have something to offer. It is by far the deadliest weapon in trials: These are the 10 deadliest Trials weapons with a clear winner.
While the Vex can be outplayed, it is undeniable that it is incredibly strong and fits in virtually any loadout and can be played on any map.
The current trials statistics also show this (via Trialsreport.com – access 18.09. 10:00 AM):
- With 1.2 million kills, the Vex Mythoclast is still ahead of the Messenger (0.9 million kills).
- This corresponds again to 6% of all kills, even though long-range this time is a map with larger distances than the previous map.
Now, your opinion is needed
MeinMMO needs your help and therefore asks the readers directly: is the Vex too strong, does it need a nerf, and if so, where? We would also like to know from you if you already own the new must-have exotic – let us know in the comments.
Here’s how to vote: Choose one option directly below this line. Then follows a second survey, in which you again only have one vote. Choose wisely, you cannot change your decision. Have fun and thanks for participating!
Justify your decisions to us in the comments. Do you perhaps have an idea for a nerf that doesn’t completely crush the Vex for years? Or do you see it as currently just living off its hype, and that Guardians will soon realize that other exotics are also extremely strong and that the popularity of the Vex will soon wane?
