In Pokémon GO, the increase of the maximum level is desired by many players. We asked Niantic why the level has not yet been increased and what problems there are.
During the GO Fests in Dortmund, we had the opportunity at MeinMMO to interview two game designers from Niantic, Laura Warner and Matt Ein. We asked them, among other things, about the increase of the maximum level and what problems are associated with it.
Increase Maximum Level in Pokémon GO – These Problems Exist
What does Niantic say about it? The developers are aware of the wish of many players for an increase. However, they also mention problems that they currently face and need to overcome.
The increase is definitely on the table; they just need to see how they can implement this feature.
What problem exists? Niantic wants to set the maximum level so that not every player reaches it immediately, but that everyone has something to do.
On the other hand, they don’t want to set it so high that casual players have no chance of reaching it. A good middle ground has to be found, and that is exactly what Niantic is currently working on.
So can we expect an increase? Niantic did not confirm it in the conversation with us, but they also did not deny it. They want to explore new ways of leveling up.
Is XP after level 40 worthless? We also asked Niantic this question. They said that collecting XP after level 40 still has value and one should not stop. However, Niantic did not reveal how exactly these millions of XP will be important for the later maximum level.
What does this mean for the players? It is now definitely known that an increase is being considered at Niantic. However, it can be quite possible that leveling in Pokémon GO will soon be revolutionized, because it is hardly conceivable that Niantic will find a way to offer both casual players a maximum level they can reach and extreme players.
However, during our conversation, it did not sound like Niantic would simply introduce a new cap on XP and let players level up freely; rather, they seem to come up with something new, provided they actually increase the level at all.
