Initial indications suggest that creatures from Stephen King are making their way into Dead by Daylight. Will the horror clown Pennywise from “IT” be the next killer?
Although the “Stranger Things” DLC for Dead by Daylight is being released today (September 17, 2019) and brings the Demogorgon , there are already hints of an upcoming chapter. The horror author Stephen King is involved, which narrows down the selection of possible killers significantly.
Where does the information come from? A user on Reddit noticed that several employees of Behaviour Interactive, the developer of Dead by Daylight, were following a particular channel on Twitter – that of the horror author Stephen King.
Among them were the community manager of Dead by Daylight, the main account of the game, and Mathieu Cote, the “Head of Partnerships”, who is responsible for collaboration with other license holders.
Why is this suspicious? The fact that a horror game follows a horror author is not surprising initially. However, a similar “Twitter behavior” had been noticed in the past.
Just before the announcement of the “Stranger Things” chapter, the Twitter channels followed the Twitter accounts of the actors of that series. The fact that Stephen King has also been followed for a while leaves much room for speculation.
Which killer will it be?
Which killers could come? With Stephen King, there is a wide range of possible killers, as he has a large variety of horror stories to draw from. However, the clown from “IT”, Pennywise, seems to be the most likely candidate. This is one of Stephen King’s most famous characters, recently brought attention through new films.
Although the developers already have their own clown in the game, this one has entirely different abilities than Pennywise, who tends to shape-shift. The fact that the developers are not afraid to create two visually “similar” killers was already evident with Leatherface and the Hillbilly, both of whom hunt with a chainsaw.
Mathieu Cote stated in an interview a while ago:
The list of licenses we could still acquire is getting shorter. I am a huge IT fan and I still hope that we will get it.
Some fans are already hoping for other killers. Jack Torrance, the writer from “The Shining” with his nice axe, is also very popular among fans. Some rather silly comments hope for killers like Christine – a jealous car. However, that seems unlikely to happen.
