In Call of Duty: Warzone a weapon is currently stirring the emotions of numerous professionals: the AUG. The tactical rifle seems to be simply too strong for many players. We show you what the problem with the weapon is.
Why is the AUG so strong? The problem is mainly the low time-to-kill (TTK) when a headshot with the weapon lands. Especially for a weapon that also has high range and precision.
This means your opponent can hardly react, even if they are very far away. This may sound nice, but especially when you have been eliminated multiple times by the AUG without a chance, the cries for a nerf will become loud.
There is currently criticism from many sides. It started with the streamer Nickmercs, after which many well-known players followed. Even the football player Odell Beckham Jr. demanded on Twitter that the AUG needs a nerf.
AUG compared to the DMR – Is a nerf coming?
So much criticism: Recently, the professional HusKerrs spoke up. He is considered one of the best CoD players in the world and has already won numerous titles. He tweeted: ‘This AUG/FFAR meta must disappear as soon as possible. It’s not as bad as the nerf of the DMR, but damn, the TTK is so damn low that it’s not even fun. Please RavenSoftware, give us variety and not these burst weapons.’
The professional does not see the problem as large as the story around the DMR in December 2020, yet he still sees problems here.
However, there are also well-known players who see it even more drastically. The streamer and pro TimTheTatman succinctly writes on Twitter: ‘AUG meta is worse than the DMR meta.’
For a long time, players demanded a nerf for the DMR and it wasn’t until mid-January that it was weakened. This rendered the weapon rather ineffective and made way for the next OP weapon. This place is now taken by the AUG, together with the FFAR 1 assault rifle.
This is why tactical rifles are so strong: Not only the AUG is a powerful weapon, but also the M16 tactical rifle. This is because these weapons are incredibly strong at the range often required in Warzone. Here, regular assault rifles currently cannot keep up, as they do not match the damage of the two tactical rifles. M16 and AUG both have “infinite range” and deal the same damage at all distances. Assault rifles lose damage beyond a certain point.
Furthermore, the AUG and M16 fire precise 3-shot bursts. This makes you very accurate and allows you to eliminate opponents incredibly quickly if 2 bursts hit with at least one headshot. Can we expect a nerf? So far, there has been no information from the developers about a nerf. However, it is quite conceivable that the AUG will soon face consequences. After all, the weapon is now openly criticized by many players and in the past, developers often gave in.
