Put all worries about Star Wars: The Old Republic aside, because here come the announcements for 2018!
Recently, we reported on the rumors that BioWare will soon pull the plug on SWTOR. However, the developers didn’t mention this in the news or the recent stream. This stream was about the plans for 2018! And they don’t sound like the game will be shutting down anytime soon.
The Content of the Stream
2018 is to be “the year of returning companions,” according to Eric Musco and Charles Boyd in the developer stream on Twitch. Here are the details from the stream:
- Some companions will return. Among them: Jaesa and Kira.
- The Spring roadmap is scheduled to be released in mid-February. Accompanying it, there will be a stream to explain the details.
- Solo-Ranked Cross-Faction is still on the to-do list.
- Additionally, there is currently a promotion on Origin where you can get a 60-day subscription for 20 dollars.
Building on the stream, Game Director Keith Kanneg published a forum post summarizing and teasing update 6.0.

More Speculation, But Nothing Concrete
Kanneg asks for patience regarding the upcoming roadmap. After all, they have just recently released update 5.8 and are still knee-deep in work. Unfortunately, he also cannot say anything specific about the contents of 6.0 yet.
The fact that he cannot say anything about the contents yet also shows that there will indeed be a 6.0. That is good news in times when SWTOR’s future is uncertain.
Timing-wise, a new major update would be well-timed for May. After all, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” will be hitting theaters then. Either way, it’s good to hear that the developers are thinking about 6.0 and are already working on it.
