Steam Deck, if you already own it

The Steam Deck is the most well-known gaming handheld. You can play with the device on the go or connect the Steam Deck like a Switch to a monitor and use it like a PC. The Steam Deck runs on SteamOS and does not rely on Windows as an operating system.
Advantages: On the Steam Deck, you can play almost all your games that you bought on Steam. Games that are marked as “Steam Deck Verified” work without issues.
Even games from Epic or other platforms work if you are willing to deal with workarounds. Additionally, you can use the Steam Deck like a real PC by connecting the device to a monitor.
Disadvantages: For some games, you may need to find tips or tinker with Proton until everything works smoothly. Some games that rely on specific anti-cheat methods do not work at all on the Steam Deck. You can connect the Steam Deck to a monitor, but at high resolutions, performance quickly reaches its limit.
Costs: At least 569 euros for the Steam Deck OLED with 512 GB of storage. At this time (as of April 1, 2026), no model is available on Steam.
What alternatives are there? In addition to the Steam Deck, there are many other gaming handhelds with which you can play on the go. However, the prices can be quite steep. For devices like the ROG Ally X or the Lenovo Legion Go Gen 2, you quickly pay over 1,000 euros. All alternatives to the Steam Deck can be found directly presented on MeinMMO.
With the Steam Machine, there will soon be another alternative from Valve. Officially, the Steam PC is set to launch in 2026, but many important details, including the price, are still unknown.
