Is New World coming to consoles? It’s almost time, as New World will also be released on PS5 and Xbox Series on October 15, 2024. Amazon has announced a change in direction. The MMORPG will become an action RPG.
With New World: Aeternum, many improvements and innovations are coming that will be enjoyed across all platforms with crossplay. Here’s what you should know:
- Better target locking
- Aim assist
- Virtual cursors
- Accessibility
- The camera will also change
- The polished combat system will receive new animations
- Content will also be adjusted for solo players
Moreover, the player experience for newcomers is set to change, allowing them to find their way into the game more easily. Older PC fans will also benefit from new features. There will be a comprehensive PvP zone, solo trials in the endgame, as well as the first 10-player raid. New World is ideal for consoles and controllers
What makes New World so good on consoles? Quite a bit. The main point is the combat system, which fundamentally consists of attack, block, dodge, four abilities (since the heart jewel), and weapon switching. Many other MMORPGs rely on rotations of dozens of skills.
However, the overall package fits well with consoles:
- The game world is not as large as in other games, and overall the game takes up less storage space
- Short sessions provide a significant advantage
- The interface already fits well with consoles
Already, New World can be played with a controller. How exactly that works, we reveal here: New World without controller support? Here’s how you play the MMORPG with a gamepad
New servers, crossplay and cross-progression
When is the launch of New World Aeternum?
- All European servers for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will open on October 15, 2024, at 9:00 AM.
- The preload for consoles begins on October 13, 2024, at 9:00 AM for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
What changes with the servers of New World?
- Every new world published with the console will be a “standard world”.
- The current “standard worlds” and “new start worlds” will become “old worlds” once New World: Aeternum is released.
- Players on PlayStation 5 can create characters on exclusive PlayStation standard worlds, while players on Xbox Series X|S can create characters on exclusive Xbox Series X|S standard worlds. These worlds will only be accessible to players on their respective platforms and will not allow crossplay with other platforms.
Can I play with my friends on other platforms? Yes. New World: Aeternum supports crossplay, allowing you to play together on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Steam (PC) in the same world. You can find more information about the exception below.
Does New World Aeternum also support cross-progression? No. In New World: Aeternum characters are tied to the platform on which they were created. For example, if you create a character on PlayStation 5, you cannot play it on Xbox Series X|S or on Steam (PC).
Are there prerequisites for New World Aeternum? To receive the overhaul and the associated content, you need the base game of New World and the first expansion “Rise of the Angry Earth”. Players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can easily purchase the new Aeternum version with base game and expansion in the shop. All other information regarding the release, the map, new content, PC version, and more can be found in our overview of New World Aeternum.
