In Pokémon GO, trainers are currently hoping for the return of Mega Rayquaza. We have summarized what an image from the developers has to do with the speculations and what assumptions the players have about it here on MeinMMO.
What image are we talking about? Currently, the event “Ultradimensions Wonder” is running in Pokémon GO, which is also advertised in the Play Store. However, attentive users of the Google app have noticed that the image associated with it does not fit the current event at all.
Instead of the three new Ultra Beasts Agoyon, Muramura, and Kopplosio, five completely different monsters can be found in the image. We will show you which ones they are and what assumptions the trainers now have.
New Image Shows Mega Rayquaza and Necrozma
Which Pokémon are visible? In the image that is associated with the current event in the Google Play Store, you can see a meadow where three trainers are standing, stretching their smartphones towards the sky. They are surrounded by Ponita, Elekid, and Lapras. In the sky, there is also an open Ultra Wormhole from which Necrozma emerges, along with the Mega Evolution of Rayquaza.
Usually, these types of images are related to the respective event and therefore also show the monsters that are available in the game during that time. However, that is not the case with this image. So it seems likely to many trainers that there was an error and that the photo was meant to announce a completely different event.
Trainers Suspect the Return of Mega Rayquaza
Although the image is supposed to belong to the current Ultra Dimensions event, it thematically does not fit at all, as none of the monsters are part of the event. Therefore, it quickly becomes clear to the trainers of the Reddit community that a coming event or special game content is being hinted at.
Especially the potential return of Mega Rayquaza is causing excitement among trainers. After all, it is one of the best attackers in Pokémon GO and therefore highly sought after. We will show you what their assumptions are regarding this.
Special Raid Day: One of the most frequently mentioned assumptions is that the monster could receive its own raid day after the raid days featuring Proto-Kyogre and Proto-Groudon. This would be particularly feasible since, according to the story, Mega Rayquaza intervened in the battle of the two proto forms and thus put them to rest. It would make sense that after the raid day of Proto-Groudon & Proto-Kyogre we would get a Mega Rayquaza, since Rayquaza is supposed to keep these two in check.
Mega Rayquaza at GO Fest: But also within the framework of this year’s GO Fests, some believe a return of the dragon and flying Pokémon is conceivable. The reason for this is Necrozma, which is also part of the image and is making its debut in the game during the GO Fest.
In the current event announcements for the live events in Sendai, Madrid, and New York, as well as for the global GO Fest 2024, Mega Rayquaza has, however, not yet been announced.
Therefore, some players find it conceivable that the monster will appear in raids following the actual GO Fest. However, not everyone is thrilled about this idea and instead hopes for a separate event for Rayquaza. This is what you can read in the comments on Reddit:

Rumors say we could get Mega Rayquaza after the hours of the GO Fest are over (I’m not sure if this will be for the global or local GO Fest, I think we will find out soon after the first local GO Fest).

It makes more sense because Necrozma is also seen in the photo. But it seems like a strange choice. The last time I want to raid Mega Rayquaza is after a weekend with about eight other monsters in raids.

I would hope that it would be a separate event with Ultra Unlock. I have nothing against a small additional raid event after the event, but having something as big as Mega Rayquaza after an already packed event (with a lot of raids) would be… a choice to make. I will probably be exhausted by that point.
