Fans are concerned about the fate of Heroes of the Storm. They see many signs that Blizzard’s MOBA is going the “Paragon way.”
In the attempt to regain control of the MOBA genre, Heroes of the Storm has failed. Nevertheless, there is a small but loyal community that regularly plays the game.
On Reddit and in the official forums of Heroes of the Storm, players are increasingly worried. After all, HotS has not performed well in recent financial reports and has been rather a negative factor for Blizzard: After a brief improvement due to a crossover with Overwatch, this momentum could not be maintained in the last quarters.
Recently, the Blizzard shop has raised concerns. There is very little merchandise for Heroes of the Storm left, which fans interpret as a clear hint that the game will soon “do a Paragon” and die. The colleagues from PCGamesN spoke with Sam Braithwaite, the eSports Franchise Lead of Heroes of the Storm, who reassured the fans.
Blizzard reassures worried fans
The merchandise has nothing to do with the game and Heroes of the Storm is not dying. There are already concrete plans for the content that is set to come in 2019, and work is already underway for the announcements for BlizzCon. For the foreseeable future, Heroes of the Storm will likely continue to exist. Players can expect “the same level of game development as they have been used to so far.”
Furthermore, Blizzard has announced that they want to produce fewer new heroes. Fans see this as further evidence that resources are being withdrawn from HotS. But here too, Blizzard reassures. They simply want to invest more time in existing heroes, conduct some reworks, and ensure that all heroes have a reasonable place in the game. Currently, Sonya and Medivh are being reworked and more heroes are to follow.
Cortyn says: Even though I don’t see the “death” of Heroes of the Storm on the horizon yet, I would miss the game. HotS does many things right that make other MOBAs boring and tedious in my opinion. Additionally, the familiar, likable heroes from the Blizzard universes captivate me much more than gods in SMITE or … anyone … in DOTA. I hope that Heroes of the Storm will improve.
