We at MeinMMO conducted a survey at the launch of the Early Access of FIFA 22 : Is the gameplay too realistic? Here are your responses.
What was the reason for the survey? The discussion was sparked by a statement from an eSports professional from Ajax Amsterdam. Dani Hagebeuk was able to gather some impressions of FIFA 22 during the 10-hour trial ahead of the release.
On Twitter, he wrote that he found FIFA 22 too slow and that EA was taking too realistic of an approach. This led to heated reactions from many players who strongly disagreed with this statement.
You can read more about what was discussed here: E-sports professional complains about FIFA 22 – “The game is too realistic”.
That’s why we wanted to hear from you as well: What do you think? Is FIFA 22 too realistic? The survey was conducted from September 25, and many of you participated. We’ll show you the results here.
This is what our community says about the gameplay of FIFA 22
How did the survey turn out? At the time this article was written, the survey recorded 2,177 participants (September 28, 14:37). We provided you with three response options to the question “Do you find FIFA 22 too realistic?”.
You could respond with “Yes”, “No”, or “I don’t know yet”, as the game was not yet accessible to everyone at that time.
Here are the results:
- 1368 voted “No” (63 %)
- 587 responded with “I don’t know yet” (27 %)
- 222 said “Yes”, FIFA 22 is too realistic (10 %)
So, nearly two-thirds of the participants believe that FIFA 22 is not too realistic. This is reflected in the comments.
What do the testers say about FIFA 22? Especially the faster players are no longer as overpowered. In FIFA 21, there were significant debates about the role of fast players and how strong the focus of the gameplay was on speed. Players with high speed dominate particularly in the FUT mode.
For instance, our reader Kiwo writes:
FIFA 22 is finally a title where you have to play football and not just rely on pacing. I’ve played it already, and if you have fast players, it’s fast enough without being helpless, either on your part or the opponent’s.
The goalkeepers also seem to be well received by players. User NeTubeSenf writes: “I have to say I like it much better than the last installments. The goalkeepers are performing well, and the AI players are making good runs.”
However, there also seem to be some discussions regarding the keepers in the community: Players are surprised by criticism of FIFA 22: ‘Didn’t we all want better goalkeepers?’
The fear that EA will make some changes after the release is always present. Jan, for example, writes, “I really hope they don’t ruin it with patches. Right now I really like it as it is.”
A large part of our FIFA community seems to have a positive view of FIFA 22’s more realistic approach. However, there is concern that this approach may disappear with upcoming updates.
It wouldn’t be the first time that the gameplay of a new FIFA installment impresses at launch and then changes significantly after a few updates.
The discussions around the gameplay also show how diverse the overall FIFA community is. While some clearly prefer the realistic approach and have been demanding it for years, there is also a large proportion of players who love the fast-paced and exaggerated offensive spectacle.
Especially among eSports players, this approach seems to be more popular. But what do you think? Did you participate in the survey? What is your opinion on the matter? Feel free to continue the discussion in the comments.
