Elyon started its head start on October 17 and celebrates its official release on October 20. The MMORPG from Korea is particularly praised for its combat system and character development. There is criticism mainly for Pay2Win. But is that really the case? We at MeinMMO took a closer look at the shop.
What is in Elyon’s shop? The Korean version of Elyon is considered Pay2Win. But for the West, the developers promised some adjustments.
You can find the following content in it:
- Outfits
- Special accessories like wings, glasses, or hairbands
- Various mounts and pets
- Extensions for inventory slots, character slots, and bank
- A scroll that gives you XP back when you die (maximum of 5% XP is lost)
- Two buffs that last for 30 days each and remind a bit of ESO+
- Luminus boxes that help you acquire attributes faster
It is striking that there are some items in the shop that make life in the game easier. Especially the Luminus boxes and the buffs provide bonuses that could be seen as reducing the overall grind in Elyon, hence some players may perceive them as Pay2Win.
Buffs for comfort and faster progress
What are these buffs? The first buff is called Star’s Blessing and costs 1,500 Rubies – equivalent to 15 Euros. In return, you get the following bonuses for 30 days:
- 10% more experience points when killing monsters
- 10% increased drop rate
- 3 additional points in work point regeneration
- 16 inventory slots
- 14 bank slots
- Auto Charge for Luminus Energy
- 15 Laurel Wreath Pieces per day – they activate a buff for additional items that lasts for 30 minutes and can also be earned in-game
This buff offers clear advantages but is comparable to ESO+ and premium buffs offered by other free-to-play games.
The second buff is called Wilter’s Brush and costs 1,100 Rubies – equivalent to 11 Euros. With this, you can change the appearance of your characters as often as you like for 30 days. Essentially a permanent voucher for the hairdresser.
In addition to this buff, you can purchase access to the bank or a vendor for 750 Rubies (7.50 Euros) each. These can then be summoned for 30 days wherever you are standing.
Are the Luminus boxes Pay2Win?
What exactly lies behind Luminus? Luminus is a system through which you can obtain additional attributes. Luminus comes in strengths T1 to T5, with upgrading being difficult. You always need 3 Luminus of the same level to upgrade them:
- 3 Luminus at level 1 can be combined to level 2
- 3 Luminus of level 2 can then be upgraded to level 3, and so on
- However, such a combination can also fail. Then you only receive one Luminus of the same level, although you used 3 of them
Luminus through in-game currency is expensive, and regardless of how much in-game currency you have, you only get 3 Luminus of level 1 per day. Additionally, there are a few achievements that reward you with Luminus with fixed attributes, which you might not be interested in.
You have a total of 11 different Luminus slots, with only one of them being able to be actively selected at a time.
What does the shop offer? In the shop, you can get Luminus of level 1 for about 5 Euros. So theoretically, anyone who wants can start with enough money to bring a Luminus of their choice to the highest level 5 right away. Thus, the entire grind for this stat is eliminated.
An offensive Luminus at level 5 grants bonuses such as 10% increased magic power, 10% reduced cooldowns, or 25 additional attribute points.
For 400 Rubies (4 Euros), you can also buy a Luminus Converter that allows you to customize the attributes of your Luminus to your liking.
Are there items that help with equipment upgrading? Both with Luminus and with equipment upgrades, failures can occur. Unlike in Black Desert, there are no items in the shop that guarantee you an upgrade or increase the chance for it.
Many cosmetics for fair prices
What does the rest of the cash shop look like? The rest of the shop consists of general expansions and various cosmetic content. We are looking at the prices for you:
- 8 additional inventory slots cost 8 Euros
- 7 additional bank slots also cost 8 Euros
- An additional character slot costs 6 Euros
- An additional Luminus slot costs 2 Euros
- Pets from the shop cost 5 Euros
- The 8 different outfits cost 18 Euros each
- The accessories, emojis, and stickers cost between 50 cents and 3 Euros. You have almost 100 different items available here
- The mounts and gliders each cost 10 Euros. Here there are 18 different skins
