In Destiny 2, players are unhappy with the resources. Especially the way the rarest materials are earned is monotonous and needs improvement. Finally, Bungie gives a glimmer of hope.
Here’s what the players are complaining about: Currently, the way to earn rare resources in Destiny 2 causes a lot of frustration. Specifically, it concerns “Ascendant Shards” and “Enhancement Prisms”.
The materials can almost exclusively be earned through Ordeal: The Ordeal. Therefore, Guardians (via Reddit): “For the millionth time, let Enhancement Prisms and Ascendant Shards drop in ‘Destiny 2: The Game’ and not just in ‘Ordeal: The Ordeal'” (via Reddit).
The corresponding Reddit thread has now received 8600 upvotes, and in the over 500 comments, users write things like:
It is literally called Ordeal for a reason

In English, the activity known as The Ordeal means the torture or ordeal. The Redditor humorously implies that the name fits very well, albeit for the wrong reasons.
This is because there is only one such ordeal per week. Hard opponents await, and only at the highest levels do the resources drop after completion. However, approaching the levels usually requires a full fireteam of three Guardians.
What are the resources needed for? Anyone who wants to level up their equipment to accommodate more mods in their gear cannot do without the rare resources.
Anyone who upgrades their gear to the maximum level (Masterwork) also receives decent bonuses to all stats. But this endeavor consumes a good chunk of the hard-to-acquire materials.
This is what Bungie says: For the first time, the Destiny developer speaks on the topic. Community Manager Cozmo responded to the issue, expressing gratitude for the feedback.
He further indicated: “The Dev Team is looking at ways in which the materials might be earnable in more ways in the future.” Unfortunately, Cozmo couldn’t be more specific and ends his comment with the words, “Before any changes come in a future update, we will inform the players and provide more details.”
This is my view on the resource problem: Admittedly, both resources can be obtained in small amounts from the Season Pass or exchanged at the gunsmith for exorbitant prices. But the Guardians are quite annoyed with the repeated grinding of the Ordeal.
Therefore, from the author’s perspective, the players are rightly upset. Why can’t the materials, for example, drop as rewards in the raid, ranking resets in PvP and Gambit, or other activities?
Another materials problem could change
What also bothers the players: Destiny 2 is now in the third year of its lifecycle. With DLCs, new seasons, and expansions, many new activities have been added to the game. Along with this came a flood of new resources and items.
All these “consumables” are clogging up the Guardians’ inventories. On Reddit, it is once again demanded that the old and little-used resources be removed or revised.
This is how Bungie sees it: Cozmo, representing Bungie, also commented on this issue:
That is something we are looking into. There is no timeline for when the changes will come, but we agree that there is a lot going on with your consumables.
