Some time ago, alleged leaks about the upcoming content of Final Fantasy XIV were posted on the GameFAQs forums. The new trailer for the upcoming Patch 4.4 has confirmed some of these leaks: Are a new race and a new class coming soon to the MMORPG?
So far, leaks about new content in Final Fantasy XIV have been rather rare. Only once, shortly before the release of Stormblood, were data miners able to discover hints about the new, then still unannounced job “Samurai” in the code of Patch 3.5.

Trailer gives “old” leaks new credibility
What is the BluFever leak? In several posts on GameFAQs, the user BluFever spoke of content that would be implemented in Final Fantasy XIV in the near and distant future.
This includes new raid bosses, jobs, and even races that could be added in the next expansion.
So far, the leaks have been viewed with much skepticism by the community. However, this changed with the release of the trailer for Patch 4.4, which confirmed several claims made by BluFever.
Warning: This article contains possible spoilers about the story and upcoming content of FFXIV.

Previous leaks by BluFever
Leaks that were correct: Prior to the trailer for Patch 4.4, there were several statements made by BluFever that proved to be correct. Five months ago, he accurately predicted the following things about Patch 4.3 before they became public knowledge:
- Name and nature of the Primae Tsukuyomi
- The fact that players would be able to play as Alphinaud at the end of the 4.3 story
- The identity of the person who would save Alphinaud at the end of the 4.3 story
- The crossover event with Monster Hunter: World
- All 4 bosses of Omega: Alphametrie were correctly stated
Patch 4.3 was released on April 21. BluFever’s posts about the content of the patch began on April 4.

Leaks that were incorrect: However, there were also some leaks from BluFever that have not proven to be accurate so far. These include the following statements:
- Announcement of the Blue Mage job at E3 2018
- The first boss of the dungeon “Compass of the Swallow” was, according to his statement, a Geomancer, which was not correct
So far, the credibility of the leaks weighs in favor of BluFever.

Leaks from the expansion: New jobs, Viera as a race
What else has been predicted? The leaks from BluFever go much further into the next expansion of Final Fantasy XIV.
- The next three jobs will be Blue Mage, Dancer, and a Gunblade class that is exclusive to FFXIV.
- The Blue Mage will be a “support melee fighter” capable of learning the abilities of Primals. The work on this job is practically finished.
- Classic Blue Mage abilities like 1000 Needles, Bad Breath, and Bomb Toss will return
- The upcoming expansion will feature two new races: Viera from Final Fantasy XII and a yet-to-be-revealed race
- The job Geomancer, which many have been expecting, will not exist
- The Ascians will play a very significant role in future updates
BluFever has also hinted that the Blue Mage job might even arrive before the expansion, as the “way it has been developed is very reminiscent of the Ninja,” which was also implemented between expansions. However, this is purely speculation on his part.

Data miners find further hints about the Blue Mage: BluFever is not the only source talking about the Blue Mage as a potential new job. About a month ago, data miners found the following lines in the game’s code:

This find is similar to the discovery of the Samurai job before the release of the Stormblood expansion. Back then, data miners had also found the names of the new jobs in the game’s code before they were officially announced at the Fan Festival in Europe.
Too good to be true
How likely are the leaks? Considering the accuracy of BluFever’s predictions, it is very likely that he could also be correct with his leaks regarding jobs and races.
The race of Viera is something that was almost implemented into the game once, and there are also concept arts from earlier art books of Final Fantasy XIV. The jobs of Blue Mage and Dancer are also highly sought after.

The developers of Final Fantasy XIV have previously responded to the community’s requests for new jobs multiple times. This is supported by the jobs Dark Knight, Red Mage, and Samurai.
It would therefore be reasonable to assume that the new expansion would also consider the community’s requests.
Always approach with a bit of skepticism: One should not take BluFever’s statements at face value, despite several confirmations. Especially the leaks regarding jobs and races sound too good to be true, as the community has been asking for them for a long time. It remains to be seen what information will be revealed at the upcoming Fan Festivals.
