Hidetaka Miyazaki is known as the designer of the Dark Souls series,
Bloodborne, and the upcoming action RPG Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. But what will he do next? It could be a battle royale game.
Dark Souls developers interested in battle royale
What did Hidetaka Miyazaki mean? When asked if the developer studio From Software might contribute something to the currently popular battle royale genre, the designer stated that this type of game can indeed be fun and that the team finds the patterns behind it quite interesting.
“If we were to do it, it might be something different. But we definitely have interest, and it is an option we are considering for the future,” said Hidetaka Miyazaki.

Why are battle royale games interesting to Hidetaka Miyazaki? He mentioned that many single-player games are being released, and battle royale titles like Apex Legends or Fortnite bring a much-needed change.
Not a typical battle royale shooter
What might such a battle royale game look like? From Software is known for games that are very challenging and rely on specific mechanics to defeat opponents, such as Dark Souls 3. In boss battles in Dark Souls and Bloodborne, for example, it is important to analyze the patterns by which the opponent acts and then exploit them.
Possibly, a battle royale from Hidetaka Miyazaki would focus less on fast-paced, action-packed fights and more on tactics to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of opponents. Furthermore, it is quite conceivable that boss enemies would occasionally appear that one might need to defeat together to obtain special weapons.

What do players think of this idea? There is already discussion on Reddit, and opinions are divided:
- Some can no longer stand battle royale titles
- while others find the idea quite interesting if the studio could find its own “spin” for the genre.

What are the chances of a battle royale from the Dark Souls creators? Nothing has been confirmed by From Software yet. However, since there is such great interest among the developers, it is conceivable that they might venture into such a title. Whether it will be the next game after Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is questionable.
