Discord is one of the most popular tools for communication in gaming. We explain how you can install Discord on your Steam Deck in just a few steps.
The Steam Deck relies on Steam OS, a special operating system. This makes it slightly more complicated to install programs. Do you want to know how to install Discord on the Steam Deck, but have never installed a third-party app on your device?
MeinMMO explains how you should proceed and what you need to consider during the installation.
Discord on the Steam Deck – Here’s how it works
This is how to proceed: To install Discord on the Steam Deck, you need to start your Steam Deck and log into your account. This usually happens automatically.
Once you are in the main menu, press and hold the physical power button of the Steam Deck for several seconds until a menu opens. Here you select the option “Switch to Desktop.” The desktop mode is a bit tricky; we recommend connecting a mouse for this, as it makes it easier.
In desktop mode, open the so-called Discover Store. You can find it by clicking on the Start menu in the lower left corner. The menu resembles the Start menu of Windows. In the store, you can choose from numerous programs.
Now search for Discord. With Steam button + X, you can open the keyboard. Then click the “Install” button next to Discord. The installation will start in the background. After the installation, you can launch Discord on your Steam Deck, and an icon should appear on your desktop.
Tip: To make launching Discord easier, you can add Discord as a non-Steam “game” to your Steam library. To do this, right-click on Discord and select the option “Add to Steam.”
