Is Mass Effect dead? Apparently not. Insiders say that work on the next installment of the series has begun…
Only a few video game franchises are as popular as Mass Effect, especially the original trilogy. However, after the fourth installment Andromeda was not well received by fans, Mass Effect was put on hold. But that seems to be a thing of the past, as according to an insider, work on the next installment of the series has started.
Where does the information come from? Jason Schreier from Kotaku mentioned in a article about Anthem almost “in passing” that BioWare is in the early development of a new Mass Effect. Schreier has repeatedly proven in the past that he has good connections to many developers and can rely on numerous insider sources.
What exactly was said? According to Schreier’s source, work is underway on the next Mass Effect, but it’s still “very early in development”. The project is being led by Mike Gamble, who players may already know. He previously worked as a producer on Mass Effect: Andromeda and later was the lead producer for Anthem.
Why was Mass Effect on hold? After BioWare produced a significant flop with Mass Effect: Andromeda, the fate of the franchise was uncertain. The release of Andromeda came too early and there were many bugs, especially the facial animations were a subject of derision. The game performed so poorly that planned DLCs were canceled. For fans, the fate of the series was uncertain, and many feared that the stories surrounding Mass Effect would be dead forever.
When will the game be released? When we will see the first concrete images or even a release of the new Mass Effect is still uncertain. However, it is likely to take another 3 to 4 years before the project is in a presentable state.
Are you looking forward to a new Mass Effect, even if it’s still years away? Or should Mass Effect finally be left alone?
