A hot leak is spreading in the community of Destiny 2. According to this, Bungie is already working on a revival of a very old shooter from their former idea factory. So which game might be waiting for you soon and how Bungie has built it, you will learn here on MeinMMO.
What does the leak say? According to insider-gaming.com and the very reliable leaker “Tom Henderson“, this is a revival of a 20-year-old shooter called “Marathon”. The last part of this first-person shooter was released in 1996 with Marathon: Infinity on the then Mac, completing the original trilogy.
Tom Henderson now believes that Bungie is currently working on the resurrection of this old game. Only this time, it is supposed to become an extraction shooter for 3 players.
The new game is still in the pre-alpha phase
What kind of game can you expect? The leak suggests that it will likely be a PvP-focused shooter. Although some PvE elements are expected to be present, the scope cannot yet be accurately assessed, as the title is currently in the pre-alpha phase.
The game is said to be “the ultimate example of a live game” according to insider-gaming.com. Seasonal progress and rewards are also expected to be a major part of the revamped title.
When comparing Destiny 2 with these statements, the season pass of the loot shooter could have been a kind of test balloon for other titles in the Destiny universe. Bungie could incorporate its gathered experiences into upcoming titles and even expand upon them.
You will therefore be thrown onto a map in a Marathon style with three players, possibly need to complete a mission or various objectives, grab the loot, and then safely disappear from the area.
Meanwhile, you will have to hold your own against computer-controlled monsters and enemies from the Marathon lore, as well as other real players, so that your mission does not fail.
What is Marathon’s setting? Marathon is said to take place on a former planet inhabited by humans, where the colony suddenly disappeared. The remaining humans, known as “Runners”, have since evolved and transformed into cyborgs. Most likely to survive better.
When will the information be official? This is still unknown. Another title from Bungie has already been making the rounds online. “Matter” was its name and it was supposed to be a sequel to Destiny 2.
However, it is not known whether Matter is now the extraction shooter in the style of Marathon. However, it is clear that according to Bungie, Destiny 2 will transform in 2025 and other franchises will also land on the market.
It is therefore quite possible that after this revelation, we might hear news from Bungie soon about what exactly the studio has been preparing behind closed doors for so long.
What do you think of this leak? Do you believe Bungie is really working on a new installment for Marathon? Let us know in the comments!
