After the beta of Battlefield 2042 left many players disappointed, industry insider Tom Henderson weighs in with some explosive information. His revelations indicate that the shooter apparently has massive problems in the development process.
Where does the information come from? It comes from industry insider Tom Henderson, who is known for his leaks and information about games like Battlefield 2042, CoD Vanguard, and other titles.
Many of his revelations turn out to be correct shortly afterward. For example, he leaked the setting and some multiplayer modes of Battlefield 2042 in advance. Henderson often gets his information from within the developer’s close circle.
Now, Henderson has published an article (via gamingintel.com) discussing the development and problems of Battlefield 2042. MeinMMO summarizes the information for you.
Battlefield 2042 Beta not months old at all? Massive stability issues
The focus of the revelations: The reason for the article is the poor technical condition of the open beta of Battlefield 2042. Even before the release, EA spoke defensively about the test version and referred to it as a “months-old build” of the game. (via answers.ea.com)
This was already suspicious according to Henderson:
“Not only did we receive a contradictory statement from EA saying ‘polished and improved.’ We also got the perfect justification story for the bugs, glitches, and performance issues before the beta even went live.”
A direct source at DICE contradicts this narrative. It is not possible to identify this person as they remained anonymous. According to Henderson, he has been in contact with this person for months. Henderson’s source at developer DICE refutes the portrayal and claims that the build is absolutely not several months old.
Another source at DICE apparently confirmed this information as well. Additionally, the delay of the open beta from the end of September to early October had no impact on the playable version.
The information also reveals that DICE apparently has massive stability issues. This is also the reason why there was hardly any gameplay to see before the beta’s release: DICE simply had no playable build to present.
What was the problem in the beta? During the testing phase, numerous issues appeared in Battlefield 2042. There were many technical errors and flaws that affected almost every area of the game.
- Graphics glitches
- Audio errors
- Performance issues
- Physics glitches
- Dumb bot opponents
The list of problems is long. The reason for this is said to be in the management of the project.
Major development problems and CoD Modern Warfare as a template
What is supposedly going wrong? Both sources from Henderson confirm that numerous problems stem from the management. Some of the leading project managers were apparently reassigned from Star Wars: Battlefront 2 to Battlefield 2042.
- These senior managers are allegedly not particularly motivated for the project and only distribute instructions like “do X, Y, and Z.”
- One of these individuals was even referred to as a mere “yes-man.” Since then, things have been “pretty awful.”
- The management is said to be deaf to the problems that are passed on to them, leading to further issues.
- In the creative area, these project leaders have allegedly taken CoD Modern Warfare 2019 as a model, which would likely be the reason for the newly introduced specialists that strongly resemble operators.
It is currently unclear to what extent Battlefield 2042 is actually oriented towards CoD Modern Warfare, but according to Henderson’s sources, this was apparently one of the few sources of inspiration.
For example, more CoD creators were invited to early playtesting events than Battlefield experts. This would also confirm the feelings of many beta players who believe that Battlefield 2042 “feels wrong” and that it should be a different game.
The course of the open beta has now caused unrest at DICE. According to Henderson, some DICE developers have been fearing for their jobs for some time:
“One of the biggest fears arising from the Battlefield 2042 beta is that some hardworking DICE developers fear for their jobs. From what I know, there is already unrest in the studio, and some developers have reached out to close friends in other studios.”
So far, no employee from management has commented. However, the insider information, if proven true, casts a poor light on the development of Battlefield 2042.
What happens next with Battlefield 2042? According to official sources, the shooter is set to be released on November 19, 2021. However, there are numerous players who wish for a delay of several months to give DICE enough time to fix the bugs.
Currently, it is difficult to assess how the situation will develop. It seems best to wait for the coming weeks before the release. Perhaps EA or DICE will comment on the matter.
So far, the publisher and developer have been quite silent on the official channels. As always, we will keep you updated if there are any news.
Despite all the problems, the open beta was not only poorly received. Here you can find the results of our survey on the beta of Battlefield 2042.
