Why and how was GTA 6 postponed? On May 2, 2025, the developer Rockstar Games announced that the release of GTA 6 was moved from Fall 2025 to May 26, 2026. This means fans will have to wait another year from now to finally play their eagerly awaited game.
The postponement was justified by stating that more time was needed to ensure the desired quality from both developers and players. The postponement was well received by fans and hopes are rising with the release of the second trailer and the announcement from Rockstar Games that a release date for the PC would soon be confirmed.
Meanwhile, an insider provides another reason why the postponement was not only sensible but, in his opinion, even necessary.

What reason does the insider give? According to Rockstar insider GameRoll on X.com, he is firmly convinced that GTA 6 would have become a “much worse game” had they not opted for a postponement. He refers to a statement from the developers at Rockstar, who were anything but surprised by the postponement (via bsky.app).
The previously mentioned release window had been unrealistic for months. Additionally, GameRoll points out in his post that Rockstar had already begun cutting “cool things” from the game due to time constraints, which were originally planned.
If they had held onto the original timeframe, it would have been very likely that further cuts would have occurred – and that the game would have been significantly worse in his view.
