The gaming expert Jason Schreier has commented on the recent announcement of GTA 6. While he aligns with the concerns of some fans, the new GTA installment doesn’t seem to be too far away.
Who is the insider? Jason Schreier is a recognized journalist with strong connections in the gaming industry. He is known for speaking with developers and employees and bringing uncomfortable topics to light. For example, he wrote the major exposé on crunch at Cyberpunk 2077.
He also has his contacts within the GTA developer Rockstar. He already spoke in 2020 about GTA 6 being much further along than many fans think. However, Rockstar has remained tight-lipped. At least until now.
Following the announcement that work on the new GTA installment is already underway, Schreier is now discussing a potential release. While he phrases it cautiously, he seems to be quite confident.
“Wouldn’t be shocked to see the announcement this year”
This is what Schreier says: In a tweet, Schreier reveals that he expects to see the announcement for GTA 6 – or rather the new installment – still in 2022. He specifically says:
I wouldn’t be shocked to see the announcement for Grand Theft Auto VI later this year with a fake release date in “Fall 2023” that then shifts to 2024.
When asked why Rockstar would do such a thing, Schreier speculates about the upcoming quarterly report conference from Take-Two. Other users find the statement plausible, as both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were delayed after their announcements.
A release in 2024 isn’t as far off as many fans believe. Some anticipate a release in 2025 or 2026, believing that Rockstar Games needs a lot of time for the world and new features.
This is what fans say: The community is currently still skeptical but also somewhat uncertain. Rockstar’s own statement was quite vague. It says: “We are pleased to confirm that active development for the next installment of the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series is in full swing. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready.”
On reddit, user turbojeebus states: “That’s like the explanation you give your boss when he asks for the status of a project that you haven’t even started yet.” Speculations suggest a timeline of up to 7 years into the future.
However, 2024 seems to be a tentative date among fans. A release around that time is also frequently discussed. But official statements are still lacking. Of course, we will keep you updated as soon as we know more.
