The young star from the movie hit Dune, Timothée Chalamet, was apparently a YouTuber in his youth. Through meticulous research, it was found that he actually ran a channel where he modded and sold Xbox controllers.
Who is Timothée Chalamet? Timothée Chalamet is a 25-year-old American actor. His acting career began in 2008 as a child actor. His big breakthrough came in 2017 in the coming-of-age drama Call Me by Your Name. However, it was his role as Paul Atreides in the sci-fi epic Dune in 2021 that brought him worldwide fame. You can find a movie review of Dune here on our sister site GameStar.
However, his fans had long suspected that Timothée Chalamet also ran a YouTube channel as an Xbox nerd focusing on controller modding in his youth.
Crazy research proves: Timothée Chalamet really painted controllers on YouTube
What is the source of the suspicion about the YouTube channel? Already in 2018, a year after Timothée Chalamet’s first breakthrough as an actor, fans formed a group on Instagram called ChalametUniverse.
There, a wild theory emerged: Members claimed to have recognized the Hollywood star in an obscure YouTube channel called ModdedController360.
In the channel, which as of October 28, 2021, has over 21,000 subscribers, a teenager with a distinctive voice presents Xbox 360 controllers that he has painted himself. However, the boy’s face is never seen. But fans say that the characteristic voice of Timothée Chalamet is identical to the actor’s appearances from that time in series like Law and Order.
However, there has been no official statement from Timothée Chalamet regarding his alleged past as an Xbox nerd.
How was the investigation carried out? To get to the bottom of the truth, the website Vice initiated an extensive investigation. Initially, it was planned to identify the star’s voice through forensic voice analysis, but no qualified experts could apparently be found for this purpose.
Therefore, the staff at Vice continued searching and ultimately found a childhood photo of Timothée Chalamet on his Instagram account. In the picture, the boy is sitting in his room at his desk.
Details from this room can be recognized in the YouTube videos:
- The office chair the YouTuber sits on has the same pattern as the chair in the photo
- The floor in the photo is characteristic hardwood flooring, with a red carpet lying on it. In the video, a similar carpet lies at a similar angle on hardwood flooring.
All these clues are, of course, just indications and no proof of the former YouTube activities of the Dune star. However, there is another clue that deepens the matter: The hand holding the controller in the video has a distinctive scar on the left ring finger. And exactly such a scar also exists on Timothée Chalamet in the same place!

How did the matter end? All these clues prompted the editorial team at Vice to publish an article about the alleged YouTube activity of Timothée Chalamet. And indeed, the star became aware of the article and sent a video back via Twitter.
In it, he admits to having been active on the YouTube channel ModdedController360 at the age of 15. He actually showcased controllers painted by himself and sold them for $10 each. In total, he is said to have earned a proud $30.
So much for the crazy research about the previously secret identity of the Dune star Timothée Chalamet as an Xbox nerd on YouTube. By the way, it was recently confirmed that Dune is set to get a sequel. The studio Funcom is also reportedly working on a Dune MMO.
