The last hurdles for the barber in World of Warcraft are falling. Soon he will also be able to change the gender of characters.
Over the years, World of Warcraft has made more and more customization options for characters accessible. In addition to hairstyles, the barber in the game can now also make many other adjustments – the skin color, the face shape, and pretty much everything else that would normally require a plastic surgeon. Now it seems that the last hurdle is also falling, as the barber will also learn to change your character’s gender.
Why is Blizzard changing this? In an interview with Eurogamer , Executive Producer John Hight spoke about this change. He explained:
A long time ago, we had this option for players – it was a paid service – where they could change their character. Much of that is now with the barber in the game. And as we added new things for Shadowlands, we noticed: “Damn, the only way you can change your gender in World of Warcraft is through a paid service.” We felt that was not the right message.
Currently, such a character customization still costs a hefty 15 Euros. In the future, you will also be able to customize your character’s gender in Shadowlands as desired. Hopefully, you have chosen a good name that works in any case…
When is the change coming? The change is too complex to be activated immediately with a small hotfix. It will therefore come along with the revision of character options in the next expansion Shadowlands and will be accessible with the Pre-Patch 9.0. This patch is expected to arrive 4 to 6 weeks before the release of the expansion, which is supposed to be released in the fall (September – December).
