It was probably the most expensive pet in the history of World of Warcraft that you saw in the shop. It cost more than some cars.
That World of Warcraft sometimes offers mounts in the in-game shop that come with a hefty price is something we’ve gotten used to. But what some fans of WoW saw in the shop yesterday probably surpassed even the worst expectations. Because a new pet cost a whopping $9,999, which is around €8,500.
What kind of pet is this? The pet “Heartglow Listener” is a cute, golden owl with a glowing symbol above its head. According to wowhead, the pet was patched into the game through a hotfix.
In the description of the pet it says: “Kindness gives hope golden wings and the feathers of the Heartglow Listener provide comfort in every quiet night.”

Price is a display error – still causes mockery and ridicule
What happened then? On the US realms, some players discovered the pet – as it suddenly appeared in the in-game shop. However, those who wanted to buy it were greeted with a rather curious sum: $9,999 for having this companion in their collection.
The attempt to actually buy the pet resulted in an error message.
Was that intentional? Although some comments cheekily claim that Blizzard is just “testing how far they can go with the prices,” it is probably quite certain that this is a mistake. The price of $9,999 is just a placeholder, and you can’t complete the purchase anyway – even if some particularly brave players tried just to click on “Buy.” This ends in an error message and the purchase is canceled.
This makes the Heartglow Listener – at least theoretically – the most expensive pet in the history of World of Warcraft, although only due to a temporary error. However, there are also animals in WoW that actually have a value of several hundred euros. We have introduced some of these exclusive, expensive mounts here.
