In World of Warcraft: The War Within, you need a lot of gold. Otherwise, you can only use one of the features to a limited extent.
Gold is an important thing in World of Warcraft. You need it for almost everything in the game. From occasional purchases in the auction house to repair costs incurred when visiting dungeons and raids, or even as payment for craftsmen who create particularly fancy equipment.
For many players, gold is a rare commodity and has to be farmed hard. It may come as a surprise that you need a lot of it in The War Within if you want to fully utilize a new feature:
You need a whopping 3,126,000 gold to fully utilize the Warband Bank.
What kind of bank is this? The Warband Bank is a new, account-wide bank that can be accessed by your entire account. It can be used for crafting as well as for transferring items from one character to another. Gone are the days when you had to send items back and forth through in-game mail.
How much do the bank slots cost? The prices for unlocking the Warband Bank start quite moderately but then rise quickly. While the first slot costs only 1,000 gold coins – something that anyone can farm in just a few minutes – the last slot costs several million gold coins. The costs for the bank slots are as follows:
| Bank slot number | Cost per slot | Total cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1,000 gold | 1,000 gold |
| 2 | 25,000 gold | 26,000 gold |
| 3 | 100,000 gold | 126,000 gold |
| 4 | 500,000 gold | 626,000 gold |
| 5 | 2,500,000 gold | 3,126,000 gold |
Note that this information is from the alpha of The War Within. Prices may change before the release of the expansion.
How much space does the bank offer? The Warband Bank offers 98 slots per slot, so unlocking all five slots gives you a solid 490 additional inventory slots that you can use for non-bound and account-bound items, such as crafting materials and equipment.
Do you really have to unlock everything? No. It’s not necessary to fully purchase all bank slots for the Warband. For many players, two or three slots should be completely sufficient to transfer most items between characters or to share crafting materials.
Only those who really want to store a lot of items will probably need all bank slots.
