A skill that many know from the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic is also coming to World of Warcraft – for everyone.
It’s no new development that World of Warcraft sometimes borrows a little from other games and incorporates their ideas. However, we will feel one effect of this in patch 11.1.7. Because all heroes and heroines will receive a new ability that could almost have come directly from the MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic.
What kind of ability is that? The ability “Recuperate” is currently available to all characters in their spellbook with patch 11.1.7. The ability begins a small channeling with an animation. The character kneels down to light a campfire, prepares some food, and then eats it.
While the channeling is active, the character regenerates a large amount of hit points every second – up to 150% over the course of the ability.
The ability cannot be used in combat. It is exclusively intended for regeneration outside of combat.
What does this have to do with SWTOR? Such an ability also exists in other games, but it is particularly well-known from Star Wars: The Old Republic. Here, each class had its own recovery ability, inspired by various scenes from the films. For example, Inquisitors had a “Wrath” animation, during which they walked slowly up and down – like Darth Maul in his final battle when he was separated from his target by a door.
In WoW, it seems that all characters will receive the same animation, although this could change in the future. However, the current one fits well with the “adventurer” feeling that WoW wants to convey in many areas.
What is this useful for? Since the healing cannot be used in combat, the ability is especially useful for refreshing yourself between fights. This is particularly helpful when you are out solo in a depth, for example, and have no other method of healing. Also, after a wipe in a raid, everyone can immediately activate their self-healing after being resurrected, so that the healers can regenerate their mana immediately instead of healing everyone individually. This way, everyone is ready for action faster.
This new feature is unlikely to have a significant impact on the game’s balance. It primarily represents an improvement in quality of life. Some say – partly in jest – that this is an indirect nerf for mages, as their magical food will now become less popular. Only healers with mana consumption will still be happy about a mage table in the future.
It is also new that you will soon be able to play WoW with just one button – if you want to.
