For a few days, druids in World of Warcraft could express themselves freely. Now Blizzard is taking that away from them again.
Legion Remix has been live for a few days now and offers a variety of new rewards and content in World of Warcraft that players can dive into. However, a few errors caused confusion and also joy, which then turned into frustration. Because druids could briefly taste the wonderful shapeshifts from Legion before Blizzard intervened.
What was the error? When creating a druid in WoW Legion Remix, players could observe something curious at the barber. Instead of having just a handful of shapeshifts unlocked, druids suddenly possessed all forms – including those that were rewards for successfully completing the Mage Tower.
But that had even more serious consequences. Because anyone who had created a druid in Remix could then create the shapeshifts on all other characters outside of Remix.
An error that was immediately exploited by tens of thousands of druids to unlock the shapeshifts that were otherwise no longer available.
This is how Blizzard reacted: Blizzard remained silent about the incident for two days, then commented on it in the official WoW forum and crushed the druids’ hopes in just a few sentences:
Due to an unexpected error, Legion Remix launched with the situation that druid players could use various bear and cat forms that they had not actually earned.
Please know that we are working to fix this (along with other bugs) and when we do, we expect that these forms will no longer be usable by players who have not actually earned them.
The community is amused but also disappointed: The whole incident has sparked mixed reactions in the community. Because even before Legion Remix, it was a major point of criticism that the Mage Tower rewards from the original Legion were not part of the Remix version. This is particularly frustrating for druids, as there are entire shapeshifts hidden behind that.
When the error occurred, some were overjoyed and hoped that it was done intentionally by Blizzard to unlock the shapeshifts. Others recognized the error but believed that Blizzard would overlook it and take the path of “Well, now everyone has it, so let it be” – neither was the case.
At least: A new druid form can also be obtained in retail, but it has been available for quite some time.
