In Wargaming’s Naval Battle MMO World of Warships you can now buy special ships. The powerful battleships feature none other than King Kong and Godzilla as commanders. Additionally, there are special goodies, but at a steep price.
Here’s what Godzilla and King Kong are all about: Wargaming, the developers of World of Warships, are known for regularly offering special skins for their ships. Ships from the Warhammer universe and Transformers have already made their way into the game, and in the sister game World of Tanks, even the legendary Chuck Norris got to hop into a tank.
On May 31, 2021, there will again be a crossover offer: You can purchase an American and a Japanese battleship of tier VIII, which will feature the monsters Godzilla and King Kong from the current blockbuster movie.
What’s in the Premium Packages
What are the contents of the packages? The fully upgraded monster ships are the USS North Carolina (King Kong) and the Amagi from the Imperial Navy (Godzilla). The strengths of the US battleship lie in its long range, while the Japanese ship impresses with powerful salvo fire.
The monsters are fully animated on the deck of the ship and serve as fully upgraded commanders with 10 skill points.
Additionally, you get:
- A docking space in the harbor
- A permanent paint job in the monster’s look
- 85 single-use camouflages
- Flag for Team Godzilla or King Kong
- A battle mission for +200 percent experience
How can one imagine the monsters on the ships? The monsters, who also function as the commanders of the ships, have their own voice lines, and you can expect wild gorilla grunts and Godzilla’s typical roar.
However, there is a regrettable disappointment: The monsters only frolic around on your ships in the harbor. While many fans looked forward to having fully animated monsters in battles, this hope must sadly give way to gameplay reality.
After all, a towering giant ape would significantly enlarge the silhouette of the ship and make it easier to spot and hit. And nobody wants to spend a lot of money on a ship that has massive disadvantages in combat.
So you can only admire Godzilla and King Kong on the ship in the harbor. In battle, it seems the monsters somehow direct the ships from afar.
Fans find the monsters cool, but less so the price
How do players react? The reactions of many Warships fans have been overwhelmingly positive. The idea of carrying out naval battles with giant monsters as commanders seems to have been well received. Here are some comments:
- „This is the only “WTF crossover” I want!”
- „I’m Team Godzilla! When is it coming out?”
- „I’m super excited and can’t wait to see how this goes!”
What do players like less? However, the enthusiasm of some fans noticeably diminished when the prices of the packages were announced. The monster ships are a bit more expensive than regular premium ships of this tier, which cost on average around 40 euros.
- The King Kong package regularly costs 75.33 euros.
- Godzilla is slightly cheaper at 72.92 euros
- The two ships together regularly cost 150.11 euros
At the time of this article, you could grab the ships with a 10 percent discount and the total package with a 20 percent discount.
Nevertheless, this is still too expensive for some fans, and many users complain bitterly:
- „After I see the announcement: Oh yes! – After I see the price: My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined!”
- „My wallet is in danger!”
- „The paintjobs are cool, but they are not worth these exorbitant prices!”
Ultimately, it’s up to you as fans whether the cool monsters on your ships and their unique voice effects are worth the money. However, even without monsters, World of Warships is an entertaining MMO. You can find more exciting multiplayer online shooters for PS4, PS5, Xbox, and PC in our current best-of list.
