Valheim is currently still in development and many contents are yet to come in the game. One of these contents appears to be a new, burning sword. You can already see it in the game, but no one knows how to officially obtain it.
What kind of sword is this? The special sword burns brightly, glows white, and is named Dyrnwyn. The description of the weapon in the game is:
“A sword that is surrounded by a magical fire. Beware of the undying fire.”
In terms of damage, it is slightly worse than the black metal sword, one of the best weapons in Valheim. However, due to its special property, it deals additional fire damage, making it potentially more effective against certain enemies than weapons that deal purely physical damage.
Dyrnwyn also looks incredibly cool, but there is a catch – no one knows how to obtain it in a “legal” way.
Dyrnwyn is currently only available for admins
How do I get the sword? At the moment, Dyrnwyn can only be obtained through admin commands. These are specific console inputs intended for testing and debugging the game. In Valheim, they only work if you are playing locally on your own server or are the admin. To obtain Dyrnwyn, you need to enter the following commands:
- open the console by pressing F5
- type “imacheater” and confirm to activate the commands
- type “spawn SwordIronFire” and confirm
- Dyrnwyn should now be lying in front of you
You can use the sword normally, and it has the same attacks and properties as other swords in the game.
Where can I find the sword “legally”? So far, players are puzzling over where to actually obtain Dyrnwyn. It is most likely that you need the metal from the new biome Ashlands.
The Ashlands are burning steppes located in the far south of the map. Surtlings roam there, and there is a new metal: Fire core ore. You can already smelt it into fire cores in blast furnaces.
However, nothing can currently be done with the ore itself – at least no one has discovered a recipe with the bars yet. It may be that further requirements are still needed to learn the recipe for Dyrnwyn.
The Ashlands themselves are not finished yet, and there isn’t much to do there. They will be fully implemented in the game later – we don’t know exactly when. The developers recently revealed what is specifically coming in the upcoming updates for Valheim, but have not yet given any release dates.
