Asrai – A Force of Nature Among the Elves
The Asrai, as the Wood Elves call themselves in their own language, live secluded in their forest kingdom Athel Loren. It lies between the Empire of Man, ruled by Emperor Karl Franz, and the realm of Bretonnia. They are by far the most mysterious elven race, as they have little contact with the outside world – and when they do, it is only to vanquish an enemy.
The king of the Asrai is Orion, a living avatar of their god Kurnous. Orion himself is immortal, but his existence is bound to the seasons: At each winter solstice, he ascends his own pyre, only to be reborn in full strength on the first day of spring.
The Wood Elves defend their territory at all costs against intruders. Anyone they see as a threat to their homeland or the balance of nature will quickly find themselves pierced with arrows on the ground. Wood Elves are not only outstanding archers but also incredibly difficult to spot in the underbrush – no one escapes an ambush from the Wood Elves.
Due to their strong connection to nature, the Wood Elves fight alongside many woodland creatures: They ride not only horses but also giant stags, or rain down volleys of arrows from the backs of large war hawks. Even trees respond to their call, as well as great forest dragons.
Of all the elves in the Warhammer world, these are the hardest to grasp. The Asrai are the closest to being truly “neutral” in terms of their moral compass. Those who leave them alone generally have nothing to fear.
One of the most popular races of Warhammer are the Dwarfs. They exist not only in Fantasy but also in 40,000. As with the Elves, a Dwarf is not just a Dwarf. You can find out more about them here: In Warhammer there are 3 types of Dwarfs, and two of them do forbidden things
