American researchers are currently trying to develop a way to extract hydrogen from a specific rock: Theoretically, this rock contains infinite energy that they would like to tap into. Research is still in the early stages, but the USA is already investing millions of dollars in science.

What kind of rock is this? The so-called “white rock” is rich in natural hydrogen, which is also referred to as white hydrogen. It is produced by the reaction of water with iron-rich rock: The iron corrodes and releases hydrogen.
Since this process occurs within the Earth’s crust, it has only been very limited in observation. However, in 2012, the Canadian company Hydroma confirmed the existence of this hydrogen for the first time, which they want to utilize now.
This is what the researchers are currently doing: A geological study by American researchers has found that the Earth’s crust could contain billions of tons of geological hydrogen trapped in water.
At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), they want to develop a method to extract white hydrogen from rock. The researchers are still at the beginning of their experiments, but these are promising. And the proposed solution is also cost-effective, as it would require the use of a sophisticated flexible carbon material, which would be limited to a cost of 1 dollar.
