Since December 23, 2022, “Glass Onion” has been running on Netflix, the sequel to Knives Out. In the film, Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) once again deals with a complicated murder case, but at the beginning of the story, he is not in good shape: During the Corona lockdown, he appears depressed, has retreated to the bathroom, and is playing “Among Us.”
In what situation is the detective playing “Among Us?” The movie “Glass Onion” begins in May 2020, and the protagonists of the film are struggling with the consequences of the Corona pandemic.
Detective Benoit Blanc has fallen into a melancholic state without murder cases to stimulate his senses, lying in the bathtub with a laptop set up in front of him, on which Among Us is running.

What is Among Us? The game “Among Us” was the big winner among video games during the Corona pandemic in 2020, especially on Twitch the game was extremely successful: People replaced their lack of “real conversations” with endless arguments and banter in Among Us: Because in the game, it is mainly about chatting, arguing, and convincing others of your own opinion.
In the game, 4 to 15 players must complete a series of mundane tasks on a spaceship – but up to three of them are “Imposters” who pretend to be righteous crew members. In reality, they are murderers who kill other players.
During meetings after each death, players try to figure out who the murderer is and whom they should eject through the airlock. Therefore:
- to affirm one’s innocence so as not to be ejected from the airlock
- to find out which of the other players is lying and thus clearly deserves to be ejected from the airlock
- (for streamers) to come across as both good and entertaining enough that viewers like and subscribe to you
As the game is mainly about selling oneself well during meetings and drawing logical conclusions, the game performed excellently on Twitch and made some streamers stars during the pandemic.

Who does the detective play with? While he plays Among Us and things are going pretty badly for him, Benoit Blanc has 4 prominent players in a video call who are concerned about him:

Does the detective like Among Us? No, apparently not at all. The game is only briefly seen when his friends inform him over the video call that they have revealed him as a traitor and must eject him from the airlock.
Benoit Blanc then makes it clear that he just can’t engage with such games. He needs the thrill and danger of a real mystery.
Good thing there’s still a whole Netflix movie plot ahead of the annoyed detective.
