During the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, a new hero shooter was presented, which relies on a fast-paced concept with card decks and will also be released on Steam. You can learn more about it here on MeinMMO.
What game is this about? During the last Xbox Games Showcase, the new hero shooter FragPunk was introduced for the first time. It is being developed by Bad Guitar Studio and is set to enter closed alpha on June 27, 2024, for which you can register on the official website (via fragpunk.com).
The 5v5 hero shooter is expected to be released on both Xbox and PC via Steam.
What can you expect? The trailer provides a first glimpse into the concept revolving around the card decks, which seem to play a significant role in FragPunk and could give you a crucial advantage in battles.
Games are played in teams of 5 players each, and each round is supposed to last 2.5 minutes. Proper preparation and taking the best cards into the round could thus be a crucial aspect. Because there isn’t always enough time to strategize and think during the rounds.
10 Heroes, 15 Weapons, and over 70 Maps
In advance, you choose between 10 different heroes with unique abilities, customize your weapon combinations, and select which cards you will take into battle. In total, you are supposed to have 15 weapons and over 70 cards available.
The trailer already gives you a little taste of what is possible with the various cards:
- Let tall grass grow where you can hide and herbs that dampen your sounds.
- When an opponent’s HP falls below 50%, unleash a grim reaper on them who takes them out instantly.
- Make your opponents grow huge heads and master every headshot.
- Turn the game world upside down or cause a powerful chain reaction.
- Simply change the roles of attackers and defenders during an ongoing round.
As the trailer suggests, you can only use the cards once per round, as they are destroyed upon use. Whether you have to choose three cards as a team that each member can then use once, or if each member has their own deck is not yet entirely clear.
However, it is promised that due to the use and combinations of the various cards, no round will be the same and the possibilities for your team will be diverse. Shooter fans seem to be well catered to this year already. In May, a first-person shooter was also released on Steam that has already received many good reviews: In a new first-person shooter, the developers send you into a colorful cartoon world
