On Sunday, March 3, Bullet Train premieres on Netflix. MyMMO author Schuhmann says: “This is great popcorn cinema with stars and black humor reminiscent of the 90s. Such movies are hardly found in the Marvel-dominated cinema of 2024.”
This is the initial situation of Bullet Train: The “Bullet Train” is a Japanese high-speed train. In this Bullet Train, professional killer Ladybug (played by Brad Pitt) boards to steal a briefcase.

What makes the movie special: Bullet Train strongly resembles the action cinema of the 90s. Especially the heyday of Nicolas Cage with The Rock, Con Air, and Face Off or the many films with big or small stars following the “Die Hard” formula, which was applied in countless different situations.
The screenwriter comes up with a one-sentence scenario: “An ice hockey stadium, but with killers – An airplane, but with killers – Air Force One, but with killers”, devises a dozen characters and lets them clash while the bad guys chase a McGuffin (often just a lot of money) and the good guys want to save a person important to them.
The characters in Bullet Train initially appear as typical archetypes, but the conflict between them showcases wordplay and situational comedy. The fight and dialogue scenes are absurd and frequently interrupted ironically. However, the film never becomes ridiculous but takes the characters seriously enough that viewers care about them and are interested in whether and how they will die.
Bullet Train is an ideal star vehicle for Brad Pitt, who shines in the lead role – also because he plays against his own film star image. The supporting characters add the necessary spice to the dish.
In Bullet Train, alongside the typical quirky fan favorites, the British killer twins, there are many delightful characters that serve as side dishes, appearing for a few minutes and then disappearing again. A Bullet Train simply has a lot of speed.
