One of the strangest and most bizarre bugs is currently found in the MMORPG Guild Wars 2. There, a single piece of equipment turns the Charr race into cats that could only come from your nightmares. Players find it funny and take the bug to the extreme.
What kind of bug is this? Guild Wars 2 is known for its crazy April Fools’ jokes, where oversized cats have previously stomped through the MMORPG world, but this error is certainly not intentional.
It affects the Charr race, a cat-like, warrior-like, and rather grim race of Tyria. Normally these fellows are not really funny and very serious. The bug that came with this year’s version of the Super Adventure Festival fundamentally changes that. So it’s currently quite possible that you have to laugh out loud when you walk past a Charr.
They are currently stretched to oversized proportions and look like a bizarre mix of cat, human, and giraffe. This unfortunately happens not only in the character preview but even in the actual game.
This is what it looks like:
How does the error occur? The reason for the oversized Charrs is a piece of armor that came with the 2022 Super Adventure Box update. It is the “Reality Rig Mk2” chest piece in the light armor version.
Even if you go through a right-click and preview, your character will look more than ridiculous. But if you equip the item, you suddenly run around as a Charr-giraffe in the world of Tyria.
Unfortunately, the unintended April Fools’ joke was already fixed with an update on March 30, as the developers announced on Twitter. They themselves write: “The update also fixed the longcat bug, too bad.”
It can get worse
Players take the bug to the extreme: Do you know what is even creepier and crazier than really long Charrs? Really long Charrs with oversized bobble heads. Guild Wars 2 is known for its silly April Fools’ jokes that it has every year. After April 1st, these strange features are then offloaded into special items, like the “Box of Fun.”
One of these past April Fools’ jokes is the so-called bobblehead lab, which makes the heads of all characters absurdly huge and makes them sway up and down like a real bobblehead. Some fans have now discovered that the bobblehead lab can optimally be combined with the current bug.
You can see the result here:
Since both the bobblehead and the bug not only happen briefly but, if desired, can last longer, Charrs are currently really running around the game just like you see them in this clip. The players’ reactions to this are as funny as the bug itself.
What do the fans say? They are primarily very amused by the bug and almost feel sorry that the error will be fixed at all. The reactions to the bizarre long cat range from slightly disturbed to very amused:
- Lovaa writes: “At first, I thought that only the preview was faulty. This is brilliant, I am crying with laughter”
- Far-Ranger also says: “This is one of the greatest bugs I have ever seen. I hope it lasts a while longer. I love it.”
- Also, ruisen is laughing his head off: “This is the best thing I have seen on the Internet in a long time.”
- SumYUmGhai writes: “This is the one bug I would pay to make it a real feature.”
Have you come across a particularly long Charr? What do you think of the bug and do you hope that it will come back again on April 1st? Have you already been on your way in the Super Adventure Box? Feel free to write to us in the comments here on MeinMMO, we are already looking forward to your opinion.
By the way, Guild Wars 2 has more than tripled its player numbers. This probably isn’t due to the bug, but what it is due to is explained to you by MeinMMO editor Alexander Leitsch.
