New World introduces the various types of enemies from Aeternum that players must contend with and explains how these foes are integrated into the MMORPG world.
What enemies are there in New World? In a new blog video, the developers discuss the foes you will encounter in the world of Aeternum.
They introduce a total of 4 types of enemies. Each has its own special features, goals, and secrets. But they all have one thing in common: they will make survival difficult for you.
The 4 Families of Enemies in New World
What are the Lost? The core of all conflicts in Aeternum is the mineral Azoth, which grants immortality. The Lost have managed to achieve immortality, but at the cost of their souls.
They are the classic undead that one knows from many other games: Zombies, Ghouls, Water corpses. Most of them were once humans who died a cruel death.
Now they are trapped in a state between life and death.
Who is Angry Earth? From the beginning, players in New World are made aware that they are not welcome on the island of Aeternum. This is primarily done through the monsters of Angry Earth.
These represent the pure force of nature that manifests in this type of enemy. It is a natural defense mechanism of the island and it will do everything in its power to drive intruders away.
For Angry Earth, strangers are a parasite that corrupts the island. To defend itself, it mimics the forms of humans and animals, but also constructs grotesque monstrosities.
Who are the Ancients? During your exploration tours, you will discover remnants of an ancient civilization all over the island.
The Ancients managed to harness the power of the mineral Azoth. They used it to power their technology. However, upon your arrival on the island, they seem to have been missing for a long time. No one knows what happened to them or why they disappeared.
In the video, the Ancients are listed as one of the types of enemies, so it is quite possible that they will return one day. In the meantime, you can explore their secrets peacefully.
Who are the Corrupted? The world of Aeternum fights back against intruders not only in the form of Angry Earth, but also through the Corrupted.
The mineral Azoth has the power to amplify all life forms on the island. It also intensifies the greed for immortality, corrupting everything around it. And these corrupted beings are not willing to share.
When players take over certain areas in Aeternum and even build large settlements there, the Corrupted will take notice. For example, they will try to open their portals nearby to teleport more of their kind into the players’ territory and attack them.
The developers say that it is a “team up with others or die alone” scenario in which players will fight against the world itself.
