In The Division 2 it is known how the microtransactions will look. You can buy items directly with money, but advantages cannot be purchased.
On February 27th, the developers of The Division 2 revealed some information about the upcoming shared-world shooter. In addition to the Year 1 content, they also talked about the monetization in the game – about the microtransactions.
You can buy the following at the release of The Division 2 for €: At launch, there will be two ways to acquire additional content with money:
- You can buy the Year 1 Pass – what this includes for 40 euros, you can find out via the link.
- In the game, there will be a “Clothing Shop” – that is the name of the in-game shop where you can make microtransactions.

You can buy with microtransactions
This is the idea behind microtransactions: According to Massive, the overarching philosophy for The Division 2 is that purchasable items should always be optional for players. Therefore, the in-game shop only contains cosmetic items that you can use to beautify your agent.
The following is offered in the Clothing Shop:
- There are clothing crates. These can only be earned through gameplay. These crates contain random cosmetic items. You cannot buy the crates with money.
- Cosmetic items for direct purchase: With real money, you can directly buy the item you desire. The randomness disappears when you spend additional money. These are items that can also be found randomly in the clothing crates.
- Event crates: Occasionally, new crates with special cosmetics will be available for events. You can earn and purchase these event crates.

Advantages of spending additional money
This is the advantage of direct purchase: According to Massive, you can buy exactly and immediately what you want with microtransactions. You know what you get for your money – it is not supposed to be “gambling”. Additionally, you save time if you do not want to grind the crates with random cosmetics for long.
Can you earn all items? But – you do not have to spend money to get all cosmetics. Everything you can buy can also be earned. However, this takes longer.
Information on the event crates
This is how the event crates work: If you buy or earn the event crates with real money, they will never drop an item twice. That is, if there are 20 new event items in the crates in the game and you open 20 crates, you will definitely have them all. This applies to purchases and earnings.
The standard crates, on the other hand, can contain items that you already own. If that happens, you will be compensated with a progress boost for the next crate.
If you couldn’t earn the event items in the event crates in time, you still have a chance afterward. Because the event items then move into the item pool of the standard clothing crates, allowing you to complete your collection subsequently.
You can inspect the event crates to see what’s inside. Each item has the same chance of being obtained. If there are 100 different items in a crate, the chance for each item is 1%.
The standard clothing crates do not have this item preview.

More information about microtransactions
This is behind premium credits in The Division 2: To be able to purchase cosmetics directly, you need premium credits. Premium credits are a currency that you can only obtain with real money.
Shortly after launch, the first purchasable crates should be available. These will only include cosmetics: No weapons, no crafting materials, no gear.
Massive promises that the crates will never contain any form of advantage.
Winning cosmetic items through gameplay should be fun, exciting, and rewarding, according to the developers. For those who want to speed things up a bit, microtransactions are available.
