Recently, it has become possible to fish in the blackout mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and possibly reel in some useful rewards. However, danger lurks.
What’s the deal with fishing? The developers of Black Ops 4 introduced a kind of Easter egg in the update from last week in the battle royale mode Blackout – now you can pass the time fishing there. The cool thing about it: You can snag various useful rewards – if you survive.
How does it work? You cannot fish everywhere. You need to find specific spots marked by a pile of bones and interact with the fishing rod lying on the ground. Then your character will cast the line. Wait for the bobber to disappear underwater and then use the shoot button to reel in the line.
With a bit of luck, you can pull something worthwhile out. By the way, you can only fish in the Battle Royale of Black Ops 4.
Where exactly can you fish in Blackout? Currently, two spots are known:
- One at the docks of the lighthouse on the regular Blackout map
- One at the docks on the Alcatraz map
At the lighthouse, the pile of bones is relatively easy to find. It and the fishing rod are basically in the middle of a dock that extends into the water.
On Alcatraz, you should go to the dock closest to the row of houses above at the parade grounds.
What rewards can you expect? In Black Ops 4, you’re not fishing for fish, but for items, such as bandages, paint cans (currency for the camo system), or throwing axes. It can also sometimes be a basketball. One of the best things you can reel in is, for example, the Ray Gun MKII from the zombie mode.
It seems that you cannot influence the quality of your catch. It does not matter how long you fish or how well-timed you reel in the line.
Why can fishing be dangerous? You can fish as long as you survive. However, that is not always easy – especially at the lighthouse. The zombie boss Brutus likes to hang out there and can quickly send you to the virtual afterlife if you’re not careful or haven’t already taken him out beforehand.
Moreover, the lighthouse itself is a popular drop zone, so you are likely to encounter other players there more often. And only one person can fish there at a time. So you need to be extra cautious if you want to spend time on this new hobby.
On Alcatraz, it looks quite different. There, the fishing spot is much further away from the action, so you don’t have to worry about Brutus here. You also encounter other players there seemingly less often than at the lighthouse.
What do you think? Will you also try your hand at virtual fishing?
